Upper County Park
1 reviews
 5 of 5

A great 3.5-4 mile trail located at Upper County Park west of Williamsburg. The trail head isn''t more than 3 minutes off of Rt 64. Once again the trail building crew at EVMA did a fantastic job utilizing the terrain. A left at the trail head leads you on a twisty trail down towards Edwards Swamp which you''ll see on your left. The first 1-1.5 miles twists and turns its way on loamy rich soil. You''ll climb up and cross an old fire road after which the trail loosens up a bit and flows at a higher speed. The trail is technical enough to keep an experienced riders interest but should still be within reach of all others. There aren''t many level spots on this route. Just after you see the Park Field through the trees on your left you''ll come to a fork in the trail. A sharp left allows you to take advantage of a quick little downhill and a few nice whooops that can launch you skyward. You''ll ccome out onto an old fire road that leads back up toward the picnic shelter. Take a right around the red car and then another right leads you back down another fire road to where you came off the single track. A short hump back up the jumps and you''re on the single track again. Go straight through the fork and you''ll pass back across another fire road and you''ll be back at the trail head in no time. If you''re coming from Richmond to ride York River or the other Williamsburg trails it''d be crazy not to stop here for a nice warmup. The Park also provides a fantastic spot for summer barbecues and even has a nice big swimming pool that would sure feel good after a hot summer ride! Once again thanks to Kirk Moore and the EVMA crew for (another) job well done!

Summary:
I am a 50 year old, weekend warrior and have been riding for about 20 years. I ride Freedom, New Quarter, and York River on a regular basis.
I wanted to try a new trail so I went to the Eastern Virginia Mountaiin Bike Associations web site, of which I am a member. I found directions to the Upper County Park Trail.
Following the very accurate directions I made my way up to Upper County Park for the first time last Sunday with low expectations. I didn't know much about the trail and was afraid I would find an ill marked, leaf covered, and unreadable trail.
Much to my surprise I entered the woods at a well marked entrance and proceeded to find a fantastic trail completely clear of leaves! As I pedaled along through the ups and downs of this incredibly beautiful landscape I couldn't help but be ashamed of myself for thinking that any trail that EVMA is involved with could be anything but great.
The Upper County Park trail is nothing less than a blast to ride and I can't wait to go back again.
Thanks EVMA!

Recommended Route:
Single loop. I rode counter clockwise and got a good workout.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Freedom Park, New Quarter Park, and York River State Park.
