Cross Country Rider Summary: There are numerous options on Massanutten. Running the entire length of the mountain is the Massanutten Trail with others intersecting. One option is to start at Camp Roosevelt located on VA 675 midway between Luray and Edinburg. From there you can hit Duncan Hollow (see review), Massanutten Trail, Kennedy Peak and others. National Geographic Map 792 has the entire mountain with all the trails. Very good. Recommended Route: I rode Kennedy Peak this time. From Camp Roosevelt go left onto 675 and go up about a mile to the top, Edith Gap. There are 2 trailheads here. The first one on the left will take you back down to Camp Roosevelt. The second is the one you want, Massanutten Trail. It will read '2 miles to Kennedy Peak Trail'. Climb up to Kennedy Peak Trail Intersection. 2 options. Right takes you to Kennedy Peak Lookout (1/2 mile). Left continues the loop, 1 mile to Stephens Trail. Go left. Go 5 miles on Stephens Trail which dumps you out on 675. Left back to Camp Roosevelt. Total about 10 miles. The last 5 miles downhill on Stephens Trail is excellent. Other recommended trails in the same area: Duncan Hollow, Elizabeth Furnace.

, from Fredericksburg Summary: Head south on the orange trail for several miles; this trail stays on the mountain and eventually merges with the trail that goes to Camp Roosevelt. I stayed on this trail for 7 miles a headed back to the tower. It took a good 3 hours; the trail was wet and very slippery. This trail is rocky but is ridable with some step declines and inclines. Will explore further. Recommended Route: Orange trial Other recommended trails in the same area: The standard Elizabeth Furnace - Bear Wallow-Signal Knob trails, Veach Gap and Duncan Hollow(get a map).
