urban assault. it's a first class way to either damage your bike, damage yourself, or do both. and college campuses were simply designed for it. particularly in western virginia. aim for stairs, stay away from parking decks. and always remember, dirt rag runs a monthly column pertaining to nothing but beer. this is a good thing. key stairs: the double set in front of d-hall, the long set between d-hall and the stadium (also try this by riding just to the right of the stairs), either sidewalk running the fronts of the buildings down the quad. wave at the campus police for me, particularly when clearing entire staircases or when regaining your posture at 25mph with your chest on the saddle and your feet flailing behind you.

it's there somewhere. just ride a bike around town for a little while and you'll eventually wind up there (if you're not currently sitting in a campus computer lab).

Summary:
Sweet riding. Most urban bikeable terrain around.

Recommended Route:
Also some creek crossings that are really fun in between the baseball stadium parking lot and cantrell ave. The stairs in front of the APC going towards the duke dog!! Hurts on a hardtail. There is also a trail going down the hill behind convo. Goes through the woods and is pretty short but you can get a lot of speed and go all the way down to the tunnel under 81 and back up that hill.

Hillendale park

Recommended Route:
All Over. ISAT being the best. Stairs behind the music building and running down to it.

Summary:
There are lots of new sets of stairs on the isat side of campus now, most very long. My favorite set, although short, are the stairs beside the tennis courts to the right of UREC. Each step is so long that your front tire and back tire go down at the same time; really a wierd sensation. If you don't feel like singletrack campus is a lot of fun.

Also to note are the stairs behind PC Dukes coming down from the Library. Some real fun shit is going down the stairs from Chesapeake Hall in the air. You get major speed and will most likely hurt yourself (I was lucky when I tried it and only bent my handlebar [that's also caused I was a new rider when I did]).

Stairs Galore!
