Great Falls Park

The left side trails lead to Riverbend Park. These are all singletracks which are connected to each other. It's hard to get lost here. There are some hills, not too technical, just fun singletracks. The right side has fireroads and doubletracks. You are either going uphill or downhill. It's a fun ride unless you go on a weekend where there are just too many hikers and sometimes horses on the trail.

Trail Directions
From 495 take the Georgetown Pike exit to Great Falls (west). The park entrance will be on your right after about 4 to 5 miles. The entrance is on the corner of Georgetown Pike and Old Dominion drive. To the right of the park is a horse/hiking/bike trail. The real fun is to the left side of the park.(it seems like no one goes there too much) Go to the end of the left parking lot and go thru the gated fireroad. Once you get to the end make a right. From here just take any singletrack entrance you see.

Summary:
Not the greatest trail in the area, and was made worse by fairly heavy trail traffic. (This might have had something to do with Freeride's mom giving $10 "happy endings" in the parking lot.) Like GF native says, once you get off the beaten track, it's not bad, but there's much better around here.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Difficult run

Summary:
There were some moderately challenging elevation gains here, but the trail system consisted of wide singletrack/double track that was not very exciting.

Recommended Route:
Park at the difficult run parking lot on the way in and save yourself some loot.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Fountainhead Regional Park is enjoyable but not excessively challenging.

Summary:
These trails used to rock ten years ago before the horse folks decided to lobby the Parks and outlaw most bike use on the trails. But their are still some neat rides off of the main trails. The degree of difficulty is nominal but some of the scenery is awesome. My favorite time to ride these trails in the early spring when the underbrush is minimal, foot traffic is light and one can still see the river through the trees..... Right safe and ride gentle.....

Recommended Route:
Riverbend Park start - Take left parking lot for Upland trail for a fun ride.... Go to the right parking lot towards Great Falls park for a slow start and then the degree of difficulty pocks up....

Summary:
A good, fast ride. Not very technical, but a good workout with the elevation changes. Great view if you stop at the falls.

Recommended Route:
Don't bother going to the main entrance - take Old Georgetown Pike to the small parking lot near Difficult Run. It's free and there are less people.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Fountainhead Regional Park
