OVER 25 Miles of Single and Double Track not to mention an additional 5 -7 miles of JEEP trails...

Although this is private property "permission was gained for access". These are some of the sweetest Pices of single track in the State that is so close to a City. I have ridden almost every where in the state and can gaurantee this. The single track is tight and twisty , with TOUGH climbs and Fast Down Hills... You want to max your skills out and see why Lynchburg produces the best single Trackers in the state then come and ride here. NOT for the Week of Lung...

Hope YOU Dig IT as Much as I DO..

Summary:
Great set of trails, I've ridden for probably 30 hrs on the mountain this fall (the trails are right out my back door) and have not explored them all. New trail map (search www.liberty.edu for map and also posted @ trial heads) and trail markers make navigation a breeze. Lower side of the mountain (Dam trails) are relatively flat when compared with the upper part of the mountain (psycho-path, horton's loop, lake trail). New bridge jumps on lake trail. I would recommend psycho-pathe starting at the bald spot for the extreme downhiller. all trails ride-able without full suspension. Horton's loop is a lot of fun, not completely finished with some great stream crossings and very technical downhills. bring an extra tube, i recently tore mine on some rocks. highly recommended.

Recommended Route:
Starting at 460 trail head go down the hill and make an immediate right up to the lower dam trail, ride lower dam through the dam trail up to the five points spot go up to the monogram for a great view, then head down psycho-pathe. trail will come out to a access road, turn right, road will come to a T,turn left for a downhill on the access road. this road will end, turn left to go to lake hydeaway, ride up lake trial to bridge jump, from there take either the lake trail up to the trail head or do the same on falwell rd. From there head down Candler Mtn. Rd. to the 460 trail head.

peaksview (great for beginners)

Summary:
Great techincal downhills, knarly single track descents, and great drops. I am constantly trying to improve the already great trails. Im modifing one area to be kind of a free ride area with drops and stunts for a little more action.

Recommended Route:
Continue past the Windgate on Chanlers Rd, be looking to the right over the guard rail. Next to the closed off jeep road it is on the other side to the right. The trail is over the guard rail on the right. It will take you down into the ravein, were the 8ft drop is. Look for a concret wall that is the drop. This area will continue to be honed to perfection.

Summary:
The word from BIG PAPA. Candlers is awesome ridin !!! I have been mountain bikin for 20+ years and have seen Candlers change in many ways. Right now the trails are in the best shape they have ever been in. Every one owes big props to the big man knockin out all the trail work and buildin those ohhhhhh soooooo sweeeeet bridges. Word of warning these trails are not ideal for beginning riders. No offense beginners. Try Peaks View Park to build skills and stay safe. Then you can really enjoy Candlers.

Recommended Route:
It is like a maze so the best idea is to take someone who knows the trails. Ask the guys at BIKES UNLIMITED to hook you up with Papa Rick and I will guide you.

Good trails. Will test all your skills. Tough uphills, technical downhills. It is very easy to get 15-30 miles in here- just don't get lost. Spend a full day out there and learn some routes.

Recommended Route:
Park at the Wingate Hotel on Candler's MTN. Rd.

Summary:
Fun fun fun! A bunch of us from NC rode up to meet some locals and ride the trail, first of all, Lynchburg is full of nice people, and we really appreciate the tour and the ride!

The trails are great, there is some pretty tough climbing, but not too long, I think the elevation change is around 800ft total, so steep, but not sustained. As our guides showed us, almost all of it is makeable too, just not by me :-).

There are some trails with lot of logs, but they are all hopp-able and add a nice challenge to the trail, some nice downhills, and great climbs. Other than that, just a beautiful place with endless miles of XC singletrack running along and across steams and through beautiful hardwood forest.

Anybody can ride these trails, but someone with less experience will need to pace themselves, and will be pushing some areas.

The only warning I have is DO NOT ride them without someone to show you around, unless you start early on a long summer day, as there is a lot of trail, and it can get confusing if you don't have a sense of the land there.

Recommended Route:
Follow someone who knows, and bring plenty of food and water.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
I've heard peaksview park is great!!!
