Black Water Creek

About 5 miles of paved & gravel doubletrack. Most of the trail runs along an old rail road bed. Two bridges to cross, one of them being an old rail road bridge that has been converted for bike traffic and crosses the James River to Percible's Island.

Summary:
This is a cool little trail system right in the middle of town. I wish that we had something like this where I live.

Summary:
This is a great trail area. You can either stay on the roads or hit the single track. Be careful and watch out for runners and small children on bikes though- that would be the only downside. You can really get a workout here and there are some fast little downhill sections as well.

Recommended Route:
Park at Percival's Island, ride under the Rivermont bridge to the single track.

Summary:
During this past summer, I rode my mountain bike (its safe to say) every single day. about half way through, with about five weeks left, a friend of mine introduced me to the trail.(he rides it every day to work rather than using a car) since then, and before school started back up, i was on the trail playing aroung for at least 20 miles each day, and for the rest of the summer, when i couldnt ride any more (because of school) i ended up with about 430 miles worth of trail that i had ridden on that trail.

this is one trail that does not get old, plus, with so many side trails and other places to go, it seems like you never hit it all. this is one reason i like to keep going back. i recommend it for anybody of any age that just wants to ride, or if they want to go serious, or just to get somewhere, there are trails for all your reasons.

Recommended Route:
I started way up old forest road at a body shop behind lynchburg Nissan named Blue Ridge Collision (where my parents work) and i road down the Old forest rd. to the end, cut across the grass in front of the Greek orthidox church, and road the trail on and off all the way to the bridges that connect madison heights and appomattox. then back. this gave me about 20 miles and when finished, my 70 ounce camelback was just short of dry.(but thats just me)

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Peaks View Park Trails (not quite as easy, but some are just as fun and you play around on the mountain.)

Summary:
There is a paved path that goes the entire length of the trail, but don't sell yourself short! Take a detour onto the many single tracks that feature some awesome babyheads and intense turns!

Recommended Route:
Hwy 29 to Main St Lower Basin exit. Follow signs to Percivle's Island and park there. From there you can ride the entire trail up and back again. This gets the moderate climbing out of the way first for a nice ride back down to the island again.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Candler's Mt. ans Peak's View Park.
