Trail 396
1 reviews
 3 of 5

Meandering smooth singletrack that connects White Spar Road (Highway 89S) with Senator Highway. Across from the end of this trail on Senator Highway is Trail 299, but the first third of that trail is unridable due to extreme fall-line action and extremely loose rocks, so although 396 makes a nice "connection", it doesn't do you much good connecting to 299. Would have been better to connect to 307, Spruce Mtn.
Anyhow, it's an easy trail in terms of skill. It looks like it was made with a trail-dragon which is like a mini-bulldozer, so there aren't any technical aspects on the trail. There are no killer climbs, all the climbs are fairly short and the slopes are mild enough that I didn't have to use my travel adjust function. Skill level wise this is a beginner trail but some of the slopes will lend themselves to the intermediate level, because that will be encountered, I'll label it as intermediate but realize that it's not rocky or crazy steep, just moderatly steep and a few switchbacks at times. It's somewhat dissapointing to see that all the new trails that have been built in the last few years have been extremely watered down, because there isn't much technical riding in Prescott, and this trail is no exception to that. It can make a nice connector, and it will make a nice post-work ride due to decent coverage and elavation.

Summary:
Smooth singletrack, no technical features. A few climbs but no steep or loose climbs, and none of the climbs are very extended.

Recommended Route:
Would probably be best to ride from White Spar Campground and ride on this trail and maybe some of the others that are in the area. Although this trail connects with 299, there isn't much point because you're going to hike-a-bike up 299 for a while, and there are other trails and routes that connect as well.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
307 (Spruce Mtn) is the closest one that I would recommend. There are others from White Spar that branch off from the campground/trails, but 307 has a lot more going on when it's not been too beat up by the horses.
