Long Cane Multi Use

The Long Cane Horse Trail is an intermediate 25+ mile trail network in Sumter National Forest between Abbeville and Greenwood, SC. The trail has plenty of intermediate technical sections including log and creek crossings, climbing, rooty terrain and fast descents. The LCHT is multi use so be on the look out for Equestrians, Hikers and Hunters as they frequent the trail as well. There is an abundance of scenery and wildlife along most of the LCHT and it is single track. Most users access the trail at 505/506 "E", Fell Hunt Camp "A" or The Big Rock "G" (see USFS map). Be sure to wear bright colors during hunting season and always yield to horses. This trail has a website (www.greenwoodmtb.com) if you would like more info (directions, pics video, maps, ride descriptions etc.)
Summary: This one will not challenge with technical requirements but will challenge your aero engine if ridden fast. Sweet flowing single track with a few short steep climbs and lots of gradual up/downhills. Very lucky to have this one in my back yard for training and hanging out with the guys.
Recommended Route: Ride it all! A few sections are out and back, but thgat does not diminishe the fun factor at all. The mileage total is roughly 26 miles when all is ridden.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Forks Area trail (FATS)

Summary: Compared to other trails in SC this is one of the best I have ridden. It is mostly single track. It has a lot of terrain change and you can alter you ride length in many ways. There is a lot of info about this trail at www.greenwoodmtb.com. It is well maintained (USFS and Local Riders) Watch out for Hunters and Horses, they are out there as well. Technical stuff includes: Log Crossings, Creek Crossings, Rooty or Rocky Climbing, some tight turns. Watch out for loose gravel in some spots.
Recommended Route: The Kudzu Loop, Dead Dog Loop (see website)
Other recommended trails in the same area: Hickory Knob, FATS
