Belmont Plateau

Some fun singletrack and fire roads. A main trail (fireroad) cuts through the entire area, with various singletrack sections cutting across the trail. I haven't found a complete "loop" yet, so any help is appreciated! The singletrack is tight and mostly beginner to intermediate with some difficult sections. Mostly hard pack with some soft sections.

Part of Fairmount Park. Take West River Drive to Montgomery Drive, go up Montgomery Drive and under I76. After 76, make a right in to the first parking lot entrance (it's basically a long driveway). Continue until the driveway ends. At that point you will see the beginning of the trail, which starts of as a fireroad.

Summary:
This place had gotten so much better over the years- kudos to all those who have worked to make it better. I agree with what most of the others have said- it's not a big park but there are more trails there than you'd think. I don't know if I would travel far to ride here (the nearby Wissahickon is much larger and more technical) but it's great if you live in the city or nearby 'burbs. One plus over Wissahickon is that practically no one else use the trails so you don't have to worry about hikers, horses, and unleashed dogs.

No major climbs, no super technical stuff (but there are a ton of logs), and lots of small twisty trails makes this is a great single speed place, in fact if you show up for the Thursday night "race" about 1/4 of the riders will be on single speeds.

Recommended Route:
It's not that big- just show up and ride. If you think you've ridden it all, turn around and ride it backwards- it's totally different!

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Wissahickon.

Summary:
This place has really grown and become a great ride. In the summer months, every Thursday night there is a "race", really a fast XC ride, and they plot out a nice course. The trails are not marked very well but that would be a waste anyway because you can go so many different ways. But I am positive there are at least 10 miles of twisting singletrak with some nice hills. Go there and explore, but caution, this is in Philly and it can get sketchy, but not that bad. Just ride with a few people and don't be an ass. Oh and thanks a lot to whoever the group is that maintains these trails. THey do an awesome job. Oh yea, one day Jamis had the team rig there and demo'ed all their sweet bikes. THat was a cool surprise. email me if you want to ride there and don't know where to go...

Recommended Route:
Start at parking lot and ride. If you ride fast, you will get a workout, if not then you won't. But you'll have fun either way.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Wissahickon, Valley Forge, Neshaminy High School.

Summary:
I found this place while in Philly looking for Wissahickon. It was fun with some fast sections and some moderate technical stuff, but poorly marked and not very long. Next time I'll have to go with someone who knows the trails so i have a better time.

Recommended Route:
No clue, I just rode.

Summary:
Me and my friend Dave hit this trail today, and I was impressed - it not super aerobic, and I only found one semi-hard climb. All was going great, but then Dave got diarhea. We couldn't find the fireroad again, and Dave had to drop right there. It was a dissaster. Point is, its hard to determine where you are - but then suddenly , you're at your car (and near TP). I'm going again (Dave's not).

Recommended Route:
Dude, I couldn't repeat where I was if you paid me. But Dave probably could.

Valley Green

Summary:
this place is a gem i usually get beat-up in the wissahickon trials but this place is fast and sharp. there quite a few small paths that are challenging both aerobicly and technichally (not really hard but very good practice in this area).

Recommended Route:
i have know recommended route because there are so many options to choose. i recommend time and water and you'll have a good time here.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
