Asbury Woods Nature Center

Just about everything an all around biker could want. Creek crossings, mud, hill climbs, down hills, TREE RUTS, downed trees. A little bit of everything for all types of riders. There are just trails forever. Be careful though, there is some posted property across Walnut creek and I have heard some horror stories about meeting up with the landowner. If you travel south, there are just more and more trails, just unbelievable, in my opinion the best place to ride in our area. However, after experiencing the rest of the trails in our beautiful state, not to put these trails down, but it is not a destination to pack your bags and come her for though.

Summary:
Ok so if your looking for a good place to ride this place pretty much has it. Im too new to the area to suggest a specific route so i just enter the trails from the main parking lot. Im more into freeride and north shore downhill and this park has a few places like that. Over all the trails are fun to ride just pay attention to others such as hikers w/dogs and the occasional Boy Scout troop i see. There is a killer, but short downhill section near the creek, just be sure your ready to ride that section otherwise your gonna kill yourself! You do have to walk/hike your bike up a rooted/stair section then ride a narrow section with a 20+ foot drop to the right to get to it but it is fun to ride down. Wear your protective gear and have fun!

Summary:
There are some exciting things being built in the old asbury. There have been three young guys working all summer on a great three pack of dirt jumps, a pump track, and general jump park, just off of Old Sterretania Rd . Also a buddy and i just finished a 1' X 30' Ladder bridge, with an opional finish of another 30'of natural log skinny. Lookout! The high point is about 5' off of the ground. There is more on the way. It only happens with hard work. Build often and build well.

Recommended Route:
Ride as much as you can. Its a tough connect to the dirt jumps, but when you get to the power line take it to the subdivision. Then take the road or the single track to the back undeveloped corner of the subdivision. Move along walnut creek till you hit Old Sterettania, the dirt jumps are on your left.
The trails traverse the creekbed and all the surrounding ridges from the jumps the whole way to Milfair Rd and beyond, so keep your eye out for unmarked single track. Its like a bowl of spaghetti around there.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Wintergeen Gorge, Urban Erie.

Summary:
For lack of a better name, the trail head that starts at Asbury Park's parking lot near the tennis courts. The groomed trails with occasional boardwalks near the park are nice, flat, easy to ride, and have enough room to avoid dog walkers, hikers, kids, trees, roots, ruts and mud. The trails past Asbury has some short but steep downs that can be attacked and ridden from both sides in the middle ring. A few might require the granny gear to crest the sharp edges near the top. Rode 9 miles, no pavement at all, with Les and Jerry today, at a nice easy pace. Jerry discovered what riding on ice maybe like this winter on the water slicked boardwalks that go over the wetland parts of the trails. Anyway, if you are reading this review and have not ridden Asbury before, come on out, it is a great trail and can be ridden by absolute beginners with ease. Then as your skills improve, you can take alternate lines to increase your confidence and skills. Look for serious riders at 6 pm on Thursdays and 9 am on Sundays. Some riders other riders go consistently on Wednesday between 3 to 4 pm.

Anyway, I am trying to start a Yahoo Groups for Erie and this trail will be considered my starting point for all other rides in the area.
