Weekend Warrior Summary: This is an awesome trail. Very steep in places, both down and up. The switchbacks and rocks, make this a tech journey of exploration. After a rain this trail is epic with the fog and waterfalls. A truly great place to ride. Recommended Route: Follow the signs for the race course. Other recommended trails in the same area: Iron legs, gene's loop

Racer Summary: Yep. Lots of rocks to keep your attention. Took advice from the forum on route keeping on Deer Run and then the long technical climb. This portion nearly wasted me first time around as I wasn't expecting it. Rode the hardtail out here and had a blast! The yellow trail rocks! (literally). There are a couple of huge deadfalls blocking the trail in a couple of sections. This is slightly annoying as they evidently have been around since hurricane Ivan. I politely asked folks working in the shop to relay info. about trail maintenance to local volunteers. They had no idea what I was talking about. Found out next day at Cahaba Bikes in B'ham (Oak Mtn.) that the Cheaha Express trail has been put on the "backburner" so to speak as far as priority goes. What a shame! A good trail regardless. Recommended Route: Ride it all and don't complain about the rocks or switchbacks. Go to a clinic instead and learn some skills, crybaby! Other recommended trails in the same area: Arrowhead State Park (Macon, GA), Oak Mtn (but of course!)

Racer Summary: I was at Cheaha for a race, and I just wasn't all that impressed. The drive into the park is very nice, and the trails are maintained as well as most. However, for pure fun of riding, it just didn't do much for me on my hardtail. Sharp rocks all the way down the hill, loose and bumpy all the way around. I'm not afraid of technical riding, but this just didn't blow me away. However, if you like to make your whole body hurt, this is the place- the downhill beats the upper body, and the climb back up is a leg burner. Recommended Route: followed the race route. Other recommended trails in the same area: Oak Mountain- I like it better.

Cross Country Rider Summary: A really fun single track with plenty of sharp edge rocks and short steep inclines with concurrent short steep declines!
Call 1800ALAPARK and reserve a cabin, chalet for groups, hotel room, primative or camper campsite. Great place to back pack as well. Lookout restaunt is mediocre and has plenty of fried foods as well as a Sunday brunch buffet. Hunting is not allowed in the state park but is surrounded by Talledega National Park so wear bright clothing if hiking about. A great weekend getaway and physically challenging trail. Ride it 2-3 times a day in different directions and low usage by others.

, from Pensacola, Florida Summary: Bring your full-sussie and your boxing gloves cause the trail is Rocky. We went during the fall and the leaves were pretty and all but the trail looked like it does not get much traffic. Also, the trail did not have the kind of views I was expecting (views like you see at Tsali). Nonetheless, the trail riding was great. I rode the trail with my hardtail and did not have any trouble at all. Really great climbs and tough switchbacks. The climb before and after the rock garden was especially nice. There is no doubt that the trail is more technical than Oak Mountain (Birminham) but overall I still think Oak Mountain is the best in Alabama. However, if you are wanting something a little tougher, check out Cheaha. Recommended Route: we parked at the Bluff Lodge. We followed the race course signs.
