Slickrock

Slick sandstone, the best riding ever! Ive never been to Moab but I imagine this is what it is like! wish I still lived in Cody, I would ride this every day! Head in from the carpark on the single track it is a steaady climb through a gully with a small, steep hill up to the gate. Go through the gate and you will descend on a double track road. The road will snake a round a little bit and where it flattens out there is a little bit of singletrack off to the side. follow the single track all the way to the rock. Once you get to the rock you can just play around all you want. the trail is a loop so you will eventually come out at the doubletrack again where you can climb up that killer steep hill again and go home satisfied that you have had one of the best rides in your life.

Summary:
The good folks at Absaroka Bikes in Cody sent me out to this trail. A short loop, but fun, with lots of small technical moves, and good short climbs and descents on sticky sandstone in a beautiful setting. a couple of laps made for a decent 1.5 hour ride. The trail could use some love, and doesn't appear to get much use, but riding atop the sandstone bluff with huge views makes heading out there worth it. A good alternative if there is still snow in the mountains or if there's been a lot of rain. With some simple digging and more riding, this has the potential to be an outstanding trail.

Recommended Route:
This is basically a lollipop loop, done counterclockwise. Another good option would be to only ride the single track portions as an out-and-back, and skip the double track portion of the loop.

Summary:
Go to Absaroka Bikes in Cody and get a map for a few dollars. It's worth it and the guys in the shop are really helpful. Rode this trail while on vacation from Michigan. Very fun trail. It strings together a bunch of rock outcroppings. It was worth the time for sure. I've never been to Moab but they say this is Cody's version of Moab. You can make it as long or short as you want by how much time you spend "exploring" on the slickrock portions. I would advise a riding buddy if you want to push the limits of creativity. Would be easy to get hurt. Well worth the time.

Recommended Route:
Get a map.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Didn't have time in Cody. The Bighorn Mnts. have some good trails. The Forest Service has a free mnt bike brochure.
