This is a cross sountry ski system- a stacked loop affair much like the Happy Jack area. Excellent empty trails! Trails are wide and fast with good sight lines. FS101 is an easy ride to the top of the area from the bottom parking lot. Daily Usage Fee required. Buy a season pass for $20 at the Visitor Info Center between Centennial and the TH. Get a trail map of the area there too.
Lodgepole loop and River Run are not to be missed!
There are around 8 miles of loops in the Little Laramie system and another 5+ miles From the Corner Mountain TH just down the hightway. This system is a bit stiffer than Happy Jack; a lot more gully traverses....swoop down and straight back up stuff....real fun
Camping is a snap - 6 campgrounds in close proximity..
North Fork trail is also close by as another excellent option.
This area is begging to be ridden I spent one weekend there in Summer 2002 and will go back to do more. As with all recreation areas that haven't had their trails designed to accomodate mountain biking, there are tons of trails in this area that may or may not deliver a quality riding. ATV and snowmobile country... The areas 6 miles beyond are at the Snowy Pass; a beautiful area of glacial lakes, white granite and lots of 4x4 doubletrack....I can't help but think there's good riding here but I have yet to find it...
Summary: The lower Snowy Range trails are actually two separate trail systems. As you leave Centennial, the Corner Mountain trails are first, on the left side of the highway. Here are about 7 miles of mostly non-threatening singletrack--a great place to take newbies. Some climbing and a few rocks; just enough to keep it interesting for you, but not so much as to scare away a new rider.
Further up the highway on your right is the Little Laramie trail system. Here you get about about nine miles of singletrack laid out in a sort of figure eight. The singletrack here is a little narrower, the climbs a little longer, and the technical requriements a notch higher. Still nothing scary, but good skills are a plus. Heading south on the west end side of the dirt road there is one great opportunity for air.
The woods are beautiful, it's always cool here and, since this is mostly known for cross-country skiing, you're not likely to see anyone else here in the summer. Bonus!
Recommended Route: Stop at the ranger station just west of Centennial and pick up a map. Then just follow whichever path pleases you.
