Jelm Mountain

This is a spectacular 5 1/2 mile 2,000' climb that rises over the plains and river valleys like a hot air ballon. When the road is rain washed, some steep sections can be a bit technical (loose rocks and gullies). The University of Wyoming observatory is at the top. The return wrist numbing descent is a blast. Wear a heart monitor and watch it melt down!

Ridden Trail:
Once a year

Reviewed by: Peter , from Laramie

Summary:
It's not "really" mountain biking, but you need a mtb to ride it. At times it's a good gravel road, but the propensity of washouts and loose rock make it interesting. It's a great aerobic workout and a great view. About an hour up, about 7 minutes down.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
The trail head on the South end of Sheep Mountain is only about 5 miles away and gives a true Wyoming riding experience.
