Ridden Trail: Once a year

Racer Summary: Love these trails. I'm not a huge fan of cross country ski trails, but this would be the exception. There are a number of fun, fast sections and good climbs. Herringbone Hill will challenge any rider--when you're in good shape, try hammering it in your middle chain ring. Once atop this climb you can stick it in your big chain ring and let it rip; you get a long, amazing roller coaster ride--the better you know the trail, the faster you can go here (all out). Another downhill near the end of the extra loop just before the pretty wide open section will easily get you over 30 mph (I think I did 36 last time).
The single track, which is both inside and outside the cc loop, is twisty and windy and hard to navigate; that is, unless you're a local--which I'm not--and really know the trail, you'll not always quite know where you are or which part you've ridden already. Nevertheless, this is some of the best technical single track you'll find. Not sure what the other reviewers are talking about when they say it isn't technical. I've ridden all the single track multiple times and it IS technical, but great for your skills.
Not having ridden these trails for a couple years, I found a new trail this year. It goes down to Roby Lake (I think), ending by a new shelter next to the lake. The single track is very soft and loamy. I only did it back uphill where it's a nice workout with poor traction in parts. On a turn I wiped out and fell into a nice booby trap in the form of a cut-down-to-six-inches stump in the hip. Yowser! Recommended Route: All of it. Other recommended trails in the same area: Hanson Lake trails. Razorback Ridge, though it was trashed by logging a couple years back and I haven't returned.

Cross Country Rider Summary: I think this is one of the best trails in the area. I found more than the stated 3 miles of single track. It was a great ride and would recommend it. Not very technical.

Weekend Warrior Summary: The single track is fun and fast. There are not a lot of technical sections and the hills are modest so you can really build up some speed. However, the dense forest provides for lots of blind turns and you never know what to expect next. The bugs can be pretty bad here even during the hottest part of the day in dry weather. Recommended Route: Check out the bikes-N-boards website for a fairly up-to-date map of this and other local trails. Even though the map is quite new you will encounter lots of unmarked single track. The double track is good for getting around but is too wide to be challenging. Other recommended trails in the same area: Hanson Lake

Weekend Warrior Summary: Fun trails. This is the third time I have rode them. The single track is a good test of your low speed handling skills. There is quite a bit of new single track that has been added since I had last rode it. The new trails are very tight and twisty. This new single track is not posted on the trail head map which made for an interesting ride. Recommended Route: Clockwise. There are two new single track trails to the left of the main trail that will lead you to the majority of the single track.

, from Rhinelander WI Summary: Double track is maintained well by county. Lots of rolling hills and about five miles in length. Double track is good for intermediate and above. The single track is great but tread lightly, some hills are getting worn. If you find the right single track it takes you about 3/4 mile to pearch lake where there is a picnic area and toilets. Recommended Route: Go clock-wise on trail and hit single track on left about 1/2 mile in at top of hill. There are lots of turns but they all come back to the trail eventually. When back on double track there are some decent hills and one big one called "hering bone hill", you can bypass this with single track if you want. Watch for single track there is lots of it. Other recommended trails in the same area: Hanson lake, clear lake, and many many more within one hour drive. Call the chamber or E-mail me to find locations.
