Cross Country Rider Summary: Lumberjack Trail winds through some gorgeous wooded areas, around a dam, up through the largest sandtrap in northern Wisconsin, and then in a breathtaking route around White Sand Lake. Fast downhills, mostly grass with mud and sand here and there. Moderate difficulty. Mosquitoes draft you through the woods and come for lunch if you slow or stop: hordes of mosquitoes rise from the marshes around the lakes. Very hilly with steep drops and rises. Multiple loops for a full day's ride. Poorly marked -- bring a compass or GPS. Half our Boy Scout troop took the wrong turn and wound up on a different loop Recommended Route: Up to Fishtrap Dam, then down and back up to the east to White Sands Lake. The ride around the rim of the lake with a very steep drop off at the edge of the trail keeps you alert. Other recommended trails in the same area: Escanaba and Razorback Ridge.
