Kettle Moraine

Kettle is made up of the following; The John Muir Trail & the Emma Carlin Trail See the listings for those trails.
Summary: Very non technical but fun. No real climbs, but roller coasters nicely. It's all what you make of it. Fast, buttery smooth, very well marked and well maintained. I liked it.
Recommended Route: I've been twice. The first time I went alone and just rode the blue route at John Muir. If felt awfully short and I was determined to find a longer ride. The second time I went, I took a couple rookie friends and we started at Emma Carlin and rode the connecting trails to John Muir. It was a long day and I bit off way more than my friends could chew. About half way back to Emma Carlin, they could sense I was getting tired of waiting for them. They told me to go on ahead so I did. They were pretty mad at me by the time they got back to the vehicle. They never rode with me again after that.
Other recommended trails in the same area: It's not really that close, but I enjoyed riding the trails at Baird Creek in Green Bay. Nine mile forest outside of Wausau was fun too. For some really exciting stuff, get your self up to Marquette MI. That's where I found the good stuff.

Summary: Great trails pending on this area. Very busy but you really dont run into that many people out on the trail except for the first half mile. Some say its too easy, just ride faster!!! Trust me i ride every weekend and its great. wish i could go more. the trails are changed once a year a little bit and they are kept in very good condition. nice big parking lot, with running water, bathrooms and a cleaning station for your bike. I just hope that they decide to make the trails longer sometime soon. Rated one of the best trails in the USA!!!!
Recommended Route: longest one possible __ blue line

Summary: This trail is fun for beginners, or those looking to go fast to get their workout. Not much in the way of hills, difficult sections, or anything too twisty. If you like tight, twisty single track with plenty of roots, stumps, and fallen trees to hop over, look elsewhere. As far as traction, you could ride a road bike over all but a few sections, and be fine. A good spot for beginners, or the spineless.
The 3 for aerobic rating is because it's only really aerobic if you go REALLY fast, because there's no real hills to speak of. The 2 is because there's no real technical stuff. This trail is average, fun for a day trip with buddies.
Recommended Route: Guh. Get a backpack full of water and do the blue section, and then follow up with the orange, or the connector trail. Otherwise, you're back at the parking lot before you know it. I'd much rather ride in Palos, where you can ride ALL DAY without ever seeing the same trail twice. -And hey! Free parking in Palos!
Other recommended trails in the same area: Palos, Portage Indiana, Westville Indiana, Lansing Illinois

Summary: i just rode all of john muir & emma carlin. the carlin reroutes have been in effect well since last year, and u do miss one nice climb on the hilly section b/c of them. the muir reroutes are newer & i don't think there's much to lament about. i don't know if the distance is changed significantly, i don't think so. the connecting link is basically the same. never was too crazy about this trail, but gotta give 5 fat tires considering the distance & amt. of time u can spend here on real single track, and what's out there in the rest of southeastern wisconsin (not much).
Recommended Route: Polish Babes Rule
Other recommended trails in the same area: crystal ridge, petrifying springs, sunburst, glacial blue hills, the crack on kasia's ass

Summary: Visiting from Bay Area (visiting in-laws and had to get out and ride!). What's up with the plastic mats on the trail? Otherwise, good system of trails. Not very technical and no steep long climbs, but surprisingly good and long, esp. the connector trail. I'm bringing my singlespeed next time.
