Governor Dodge State Park

There are three connected bike trail loops, Mill Creek 3.3 miles, Gold Mine 2.5 miles and Meadow Valley 6.8 miles. Trails include single track and fire roads. The terrain is rolling with several steep hills.
Enter Governor Dodge State Park 4 miles north of Dodgeville off Highway 23. The most common bike trail access is from the Cox Hollow Lake beach parking lot. Access is also available from Military Ridge State Trail, a former railroad grade trail begins near Madison, about 35 miles east, and runs west to Dodgeville..
Summary: Better than nothing. Just your average Wisconsin jaunt over hill and dale, to Grandmother's house we go. A couple of very short steep tricky sections, a little bit of sand, but mostly just mowed grass paths. For the extreme, you can hit a 50-foot cliff down into the canyon and rocks below, however it is not survivable. Still, though, if you guys take that one, there will be a lot less whining coming from y'all.
Recommended Route: Main parking lot, up the steep hiull, do the big loop twice. For those that constantly whine about Wisconsin trails, I recommend you ride I-94 at midnight wearing black, with no headlight or taillight.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Lapham Peak, Blue Mounds

Summary: It's true that these trails are extremely wuss-oriented. If you're an experienced rider, don't even bother. On the other hand, there are some really beautiful views to be had along the trails. Beginners would enjoy this trail.
Recommended Route: Any trail or road that leads away from Governor Dodge State Park and toward a real trail.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Blue Mound State Park, Cam-Rock, Kettle Moraine

Summary: Great hill climbing, some are steep and short(approx. 20-40 yards) a few are longer, up to a quarter mile of almos continuous climbing. Over-all, if you ride hard and fast, and do the bike trails two times, you should be winded( unless your last name is Juarez, Tilford, Armstrong, etc) and you will feel it in your legs the next day! Great aerobic and leg work-out!
Recommended Route: Ride all trails in the park that are for bikes(about 13+ miles)
Other recommended trails in the same area: Black River Falls, Kettle Morrain(south unit)

Summary: This is a great place to get a work out. Nothing techical. All very wide easy trails. Some trails int he woods some trails in the grass. Stay off the trails that are shared with horses, at times they can be full of horse crap, and dry loose sand.
Recommended Route: All pretty much the same
Other recommended trails in the same area: Blue Mounds State park has both techinical trails and wide trails for speed work.

Summary: Everyone who call this a girlfriend trail (no offense to women who can kick some butt on the trail) is absolutely correct. I went there because it was somewhat close and Kettle Moraine doesn't really have anything to technical. Well this place made Kettle Moraine look technical. This not a trail for the mountain biker who wants a technical challenge. One can still get a good solid workout here, but honestly who wants to ride on grassy horse trails. Two tires for having two fast and somewhat cool downhills.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Try Devils Head Ski Resort for some climbing and descending, Quarry Park for the free rider in you, and Kettle Moraine for a nice long single track with no really challenging technical stuff.
