Cross Country Rider Summary: This is actually called Underdown.

There are nice additions and improvements since I last frequented this forest.
My 5 rating for aerobic difficulty is because you can spend a lot of time and cover a lot of ground here, 3 rating for technical would be because this isn't a place with huge nasty climbs or hurt yourself areas as much as a place for fast flowing between trees, moving up the ridges and fast down. Overall 5 because it's a worthy place where you get a great work out and frequent grin factor in the riding.
Recommended Route: Right now (8/2008) recent logging where E, V, F and U are close makes for some navigational challenges. Other recommended trails in the same area: There are several nice trails not far from the Hwy. 51/39 corridor and Washburn Lake is probably the closest to this trail network. I generally come here from our cottage near by, but it's a perfect 2nd of 2 days for somebody coming from the south were you can ride Standing Rocks and 9 Mile on day 1 and Underdown on day 2 of a weekend.

, from rhinelander, wis Summary: On the horse trails map there are two areas marked water, they mean it (100 yds. and knee deep). Also one or two weekends a year the horse people have group rides. They chop up the trails a bit, but worse they bring dogs (mean farm dogs), and leave lots of gifts on the trails. If you see more than two or three horse trailers at the trail-head I recomend you keep going and come back after the next hard rain. Recommended Route: If you can stay on the mtb route from their map and the ground markings then you win! If you can get the horse (better) or x-c (best) map.

, from Rhinelander Summary: These trails are mostly old logging roads. Good for all riders. One long steep climb but most hills are small. Some declines are full of loose rocks and ruts, so be careful. Many miles of trails and roads to ride so plan a full day or days of riding and/or camping. There are also many small lakes to swim or camp on. Perch or mist lakes are probably the best. Recommended Route: Go with someone who knows the trails because they are not marked clearly and the trails are not maintained well. Start by horse trail for maps.

, from Bay Area, CA Summary: April eighth 2001, still too much snow to ride it. I will return in a few weeks. Oh yeah, it isn't Down Under Rec Area. It is Underdown Rec Area. If you're looking for signs to the former you won't find it. Recommended Route: I didn't get to ride it but I did find it despite the WEAK directions given by the person who originally posted this trail.
