Ridden Trail: Ridden Once

Cross Country Rider Summary: The trail is wide and open. Technically this trail is pretty dull. There are very few areas I needed to slow for a turn, and I had never ridden the trail before. I was thinking with the park being on the shore of Lake Winnebago that I would have had a scenic ride. Unfortunately, the trail designer(s) had a different idea. The trail takes riders away from the lake and only in a few spots along the trail can it be seen from a distance. The trail path is 4 to 10 feet wide depending on where you are. The surface is short mowed grass with a 6 inch to 1-foot wide dirt path through most of it. It takes you through open tall grass fields except for a couple brief ventures through wooded areas. Just when you think you might have some interesting riding the path takes you right back out to the fields. Another downer with it is you have to pay to use it because it's in a state park. It cost me $7.00. The park ranger did give me a map, apparently drawn up by a state employee with no cartography training. You'll know what I mean when you see one. I'd recommend heading about 15 minutes south to Calumet County Park where the trail is free. I tried to go there but they'd had a bunch of rain and the trails were closed that day. Recommended Route: There are only two ways to go. Head to the northern loop which is about 2.75 miles long, or head south. The southern loop, depending on your path, can be as short as 6 miles Other recommended trails in the same area: Here's the address. Look up directions in Mapquest.
