Cross Country Rider Summary: After hearing about this place from many friends, I was anxious to check it out. WOW, I don't know why this place gets so many "so so" reviews, having ridden Palos, Deer Grove and Kettle, I think this place is easily more technical and challenging. There's some great descents, and trails criss-crossing everywhere for you to explore. I spent three days here this past weekend, and found new stuff to ride all the time. The trails were well maintained, free from ANY trash, absolutely scenic, and good for all skill levels, though I think intermediate riders will benefit the most from it.
Best part was the crowds, on Memorial Day weekend, I only saw two other riders the entire time, and both were incredibly friendly and willing to show me their favorite trails. There's about 10-15 miles of trails, but they can be strung together many new ways to keep things interesting.
I think a lot of people just haven't explored more of the smaller trails, as this place should be getting far better reviews than I've seen so far. Recommended Route: Take 31 north to Route JR (Petrifying Springs Rd.), turn left into the first entrance to the park and park anywhere. Where the parking lot road crosses the river, take the trail on the east side of the river. Follow it along the river for some fast, curvy single track, if you take a wrong turn at one of the many junctions, no biggy, just back track til you see the river. Stay along Hwy A when it dumps you out on the road, then catch the trail again on a short uphill 50 yards up the road.
More trails all over the park though. Other recommended trails in the same area: Skokie Lagoon for ladders, jumps and more freeride terrain. Palos for technical singletrack, Des PLaines River Trail for long smooth training rides.

Weekend Warrior Summary: It looks like UW-Parkside is patrolling the woods with ATVs to enforce the new signage they put up. And some property owners to the north of the road have put up new signs and a fence (that you can get around if you want to). I'd stay away from these trails all together.

Cross Country Rider Summary: Overall this place is ok nothing too technical. Pretty scenery in the fall with color changes no bugs near the creeks at this time of year. Becareful at busy times with hikers and kids. Too many people out on the trails kills the mood. Seeing the salmon running up the creeks(way back in the woods) was a nice touch. Best part of this ride is that its free no charges like trail fees. Park anywhere is fine "Best" place to park is near the Springs (where you can fill up spring water at.)This is a good place to start from because the trails are practically right there at the edge of the parking lot. Recommended Route: Off of county Rd. A in Kenosha county East of Greenbay Rd. Also can take Wood Rd. and turn West onto county Rd. Other recommended trails in the same area: Kettle Moraine South
Bong recreation area
Cliffside park (Racine county)

Cross Country Rider
, from Kenosha Summary: The trails are nice especially if time is of the essence. I live across the street and it's great. FYI - I just received notice from Kensoha county that UWP is going to do some major excavation in there including the removal of the dam and installation of two culverts. To get back with the heavy equipment there is likely to be some serious damage (at least in the short term). Other recommended trails in the same area: Are there any other hills in Kenosha or Racine County?
