Hanson Lake Trails

Starts on a fireroad and then to a pipeline. Watch for single track about 1 mile in. Almost all great single track with no real technical stuff. You might miss some so keep your eyes open. Hanson Lake is great for swimming and there is a beach at the bottom of the hill about a quarter of a mile in.

Summary:
Excellent single track with beautiful views of the lake. Lots of elevation change and narrow, winding trails that keep things interesting especially on the trails the follow the shoreline. I found some of the trails to be quite technical with some steep lake-side drop-offs.

There is a ton of new single track here that hasn't made the map yet. Even so, It's pretty hard to get lost because of the bordering roads, snow mobile trails and airport fence.

Recommended Route:
Check out the bikes-N-boards website for a fairly up-to-date map of this and other local trails.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Washburn Lake

Summary:
I rode this once in 02 and thought it was really short and rather boring. In 03 I went back with some beginners and found that it has tons of trails that you kinda have to search for. Stay together, keep your eyes open, and pack a GPS if it's an option. It is easy to get lost, so keep the Lake on your Left, and explore it. This place has tons of possibilities, and could even be as good as Washburn.

Recommended Route:
Lake on the Left, and look for the singletrack that circles the lake.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Washburn, Razorback, Phillips, BMX track in Rhinelander.

Summary:
The miles of single track on this trail is fun. There are some very steep but short climbs. My brother and I went there twice so far, and more fun the second time. For the best single track, ride down the hill to Hanson Lake, and just as you are winding the corner to come back up, there is a single track right there. Take it, it's the best one. You will follow the shoreline for quite a while. This trail is for everyone, the main trail is easy, and some of the single tracks a quite technical. Have fun!

Summary:
This place is ill-maintained, mostly because it's for four-wheelers. Contrary to the first posting, this place did have some technical singletrack, and the descent to the beach was really fun. Watch out for that sand, it doesn't taste too good...
There isn't much for parking, but it is totally worth checking out for a nice ride. It really is a hidden treasure. Don't get faked out by the first bit of trail just at the start, it goes on an on.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Razorback Ridges, Phillips.
