Plymouth Hollow Trail

Average Rating:    (3 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 2

The first 2-3 miles of the trail is actually a wide access road for dozers and timber trucks. Take every left available, including following the creek bed for a short distance. (A topo map of the area is very valuable). Eventually, the trail turns to single track, and heads up a steep, long, rocky ascent which ends by intercepting a side farm road, which directly connects to Route 34 (Red House Hill) directly by the Route 34 Fire Department.

Trail Directions
Directly before entering the town of Bancroft, WV coming from the direction of the town of Red House(In Putnam County) there will be a dirt parking area on the left. If you cross the tiny white bridge into the town, you've gone too far. The trail goes up the hill, and you have to go around a wide steel pole gate which blocks automobiles from entering the trail area. Be careful not to take the access road off to the right, because it just follows the backwater to a dead end up the hollow.

Ridden Trail:
Once a month

Summary:
This trail was recently bulldozed by utility companies (August 2001), but still offers a good ride. The uphill is now freshly bulldozed also -- but still tough. The switchback singletrack offers a nice break from the bulldozed sections before the monster decent. The ride down is extremely fast and long (almost 3 miles!).

Recommended Route:
After a mile or so, there is a huge split in the trail. Only those wishing a huge climb should go right, all else take the left fork. Either way, you will find that the trail actually makes a big circle back to the split.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Huge network of trails behind the Eleanor Pool.
