This is a wonderfully maintained rail-trail in central West Virginia. It has, I believe, 13 tunnels. The scenery is great, and the temperature always seems to be cooler than the rest of the area. Its fun for an epic ride. You can travel all the way to Morgantown I think. Bike and Helmet Rentals available.

Summary:
I rode the first 20 miles of this trail (NBRT) back in August of 2012. I have 5 videos on YouTube named North Bend Rail Trail Parts 1-5. This is a fun flat trail that anyone can ride. I only heard one dog bark during the 20 miles that I rode. Since I'm retired now I'm going to finish riding North Bend Rail Trail this year (2016) and finish my videos. Really wish I lived near this trail, I would be on it just about everyday.

Recommended Route:
If you want to start at the beginning, just look at the attached map. The trail starts close to the end of Happy Valley Rd near Parkersburg WV. Just park across from the big horse barn on the grass alone the trail, yes it's wide enough.

Summary:
THIS TRAIL RUNS SOME 60 TO 70 MILES WITH MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF SURFACE RANGING FROM HARD PACKED LIMESTONE TO LOOSE ROCKS AND SOME PARTS JUST A PATH THROUGH THE GRASS. THIS TRAIL DOES HAVE SEVERAL TUNNELS(13 IN ALL WITH 10 THAT YOU RIDE THROUGH AND THREE THAT ARE OFF TO THE SIDE THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO PASS THROUGH AND I WOULD NOT ADVISE THAT YOUR FIRST TRIP ON THIS TRAIL GO THROUGH THESE 3). A LIGHT SOURCE IS A MUST ESPECIALLY AT THE WEST UNION TUNNELL THAT IS ALMOST A HALF-MILE LONG. EATON'S TUNNELL AND THE SILVER RUN TUNNELL WOULD BE A LOT SMOOTHER WITH A LIGHT SOURCE ALSO. THE MOST HEAVILY TRAVELED PART OF THE TRAIL IS AT THE TRAILHEAD IN CAIRO AND THIS CAN BE TRAVELED BY ALL TYPES OF RIDERS. MY CHILDREN HAVE RODE 15 MILES OF THIS TRAIL WITH ME AND THEY ARE 7 AND 5. THE MORE EXPERIENCED RIDERS CAN ALSO ENJOY RIDES FROM PARKERSBURG TO CLARKSBURG WHICH USUALLY TAKES 5 TO 7 HOURS WITH MY FAVORITE RIDE BEGINNING AT CLARKSBURG AND ENDING AT NORTH BEND STATE PARK. PARTS OF THIS TRAIL ARE IN NEED OF REPAIR AND CAUTION SHOULD BE USED NEAR THE PARKERSBURG TO WALKER SECTION. THIS TRAIL CAN BE ENJOYED BY ALL WITH MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF WILDLIFE AND SCENERY TO BE SEEN.

Recommended Route:
THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT PLACES TO GET ON THIS TRAIL. THE TRAIL RUNS ALONG RT 50 FROM PARKERSBURG TO CLARKSBURG WITH ACCESS POINTS AT SALEM,WEST UNION,PENNSBORO,ELLENBORO,NORTH BEND STATE PARK,WALKER,AND PARKERSBURG.
