Summary:
Not a ton of adventure, but a serene, relaxing ride on a summer Saturday evening along a crushed stone rail trail. There are some interesting sites along the trail: old cemeteries, coke ovens, and ruins of coal mines and barge loadouts. The grade going up the river is steep enough for a workout. I didn't pass one other biker on my 15 mile round trip and I don't understand why this peaceful and enjoyable ride isn't being appreciated by others. I will try to get down to it every couple of months.

Recommended Route:
I get off I-79 at the Goshen Road exit and get on US 19 South. I go right onto Opekiska Road and follow this to the Opekiska Lock and Dam on the Monongahela River, where I park and get on the trail.

Summary:
The Mon River trail would bore most mountain bikers, but you can use it to get you to White Park. The area has a woods-full of good single track trails. Also a couple BMX courses. Most of the trails go up-down up-down and don't require much sustained climbing effort. A good place to develop your skills.

Recommended Route:
Mon River Trail to White Park. Take the Mon River (Caperton) trail south of the dam. Cut through the South U Plaza and get on to the sidewalk running along University Ave. Opposite General Glass is Callen Ave. Take this street up the hill and turn right on Mississippi St. Entrance to White Park is a quarter mile further. You can find a trailhead at any of the parking areas. Just get in the woods and explore.

Summary:
This is a very nice flat, asphalted trail that runs along the Monongahalia river. It's great for biking, walking or roller-blading. It makes for a nice family day outdoors. There is a bike shop nearby for rantals of bikes and roller-blades, etc. There are restaurants along the trail also. Enjoy!

Recommended Route:
I start at Whitetail Cycles on Clay St. They have a large parking lot. I go north to Star City then back down to the Uffington bridge and back to the trail head. It's 15 miles round trip.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
The Caperton Trail runs from Morgantown to Reedsville. A very nice packed surface but all uphill to Reedsville. Coming back down is what's fun!
