Hurricane Ridge Mountain Bike Area

Average Rating:    (4.5 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 2

This area has about 15 miles of trails, mostly singletrack. No trails are marked as of yet. We plan to have all trails marked within the next few months. These trails were built by mountain bikers for mountain biking, very nice system of tight singletrack and fast doubletrack. Maps will be available in near future. Go to the Yahoo club "Brush Creek MTB club of s WV" for more info.http://clubs.yahoo.com/brushcreekmtbclubofswv/ or send me an email at: wvgreene@inetone.net

Trail Directions
Drive south of Princeton on WV state route 20 for about 6 miles. About 1 mile south of Glenwood Park look for the Hurricane Ridge Road on your left. Take this road until it turns to gravel. There are several trail heads on the left. This road climbs to a ridge that is home of the Mercer county airport. Most of the riding will be on your left, on the opposite side of the road from the airport.

This is a very good canopy covered MTB trail. There are rocks, roots log pyramids, log bridges, on and off camber switch backs some double track but mostly single track. This trail has a little of everything and is very well maintained (as of 21 July 2001). Ernie (the local trail steward for all intensive purposes)went out of his way to show me the trail which is not clearly marked. I would say a trail head marker, on trail markers and a map would make this one of the best east coast loops I have ridden.

Recommended Route:
The 2001 race course.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
I was just passing through WV... I can recommend Swayback bridge (AL), Tyler state park(TX), Cedar hill state park(TX)and the park trail in Meridain (MS) all of which I researched here and rode on my travels over the past 6 months.. Also consider 12 MOH trail at Fort Sill OK, skyline trail UT and porcupine rim UT. I know they are not in the same area but hey we all travel now and then..

I've ridden Prop's Run, Snoweshoe and SilverCreek, Gualley Mnt., Cow Pasture at Cranberry Glades, Tsali Trails at Lake Fontana, Pipestem Resort to Bluestone Lake, The Beast near Blacksburg, Va, Mount Rogers Recreational area trails among others. These trails
are as fast and fun. The trails here are well maintained featuring many switchbacks log bridges and
fast singletrack. One can easily get up to a 25 mile ride in this area. Trails vary from intermediate to difficult. Trail markers are going up this week and maps of the area will be available by spring at clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/brushcreekmtbclubofswv
You can tell these trails were built by mtbikers for mtbikers. A must ride.

Recommended Route:
Dead Horse Trail down to Sawmill Hollow then climb to Turtle Shell Connector taking it all the way to Terrapin Station next climb The Chameleon and take Moonshine Charlies as a down hill. If your up for more
take the Dan Hale Reservoir Connector to Route 20 end of Glenwood Park and hit the single-track there returning by the Dan Hale Connector.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Pipestem Resort to Bluestone Lake, Glenwood Park
