Dolly Sods North ( Soon to be none ridable wilderness area )

Average Rating:    (0 of 5)

There is an entire network of trails in this area. Pick up a map at Blackwater Bikes in Davis, WV for Dolly Sods North. Some of these trails can be very rocky and technical however the views are amazing.

Take Freeland Road off Rt.32 in Canaan Valley, about 1/2 mile from Canaan Valley State Park entrance. Go for about a mile, the road will go to gravel. There is a parking area on the right if you want to climb 2.2 miles of gravel road up the mountain. If you don't want to add this to your ride there is another parking area 1/2 way up the mountain and another on top.

Trails begin from that parking area, with the main one going on out a short distance before veering off to the left a bit. You will pass some large boulders keeping vehicles out. At the next couple intersections stay left on what looks like a two track. The trail will get extremely rocky and at the next intersection, stay left again. You will climb a bit more and then come to a grassy, blueberry covered meadow. Keep going, this is Rocky Ridge Trail and it is what the trail says. Check out a couple of the small paths on the left when you see the top of the mountain. Awesome views of Canaan Valley below.

Enjoy while you can.
