The Powerline Trails

Average Rating:    (2.2 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 5

The powerline trails are a mixture of fast fireroads, short climbs and fast windy single track. during the winter two of the trails flood and provide a nice bike wash. Right now the power company is puting in new fiber optic cables under the ground on the south end, but many of these trails were already to wide and ripped up from motorcycles. That's right motorcycles, but don't worry the other trails are to tight and windy for those big gas hawgs and are left alone. A mountain bike organization called single track mind works on the trails frequently. I ride these trails everyday so if you see a big guy with a visor on the back of his helmet on a yellow bike rippin through stop and say hi. Beleive me these trails are worth it, just don't go often or you'll get in my way and crowd the trails.

Summary:
This Trail sucked. I highly recommend that you don't come to this trail. The trail was all covered in mud, Lots and lots of rocks, and Trees covering the trail. Uless you bring some mud pants or Select the very fiew trails with out mud on them. Plus there is no way there is even more then 7 miles of trail. PLus dont park up there unless you like to have your windows broken, becuase u you might need some one guarding the car. Overall the trail was not worth my time. :-(

All I can say is you might want to pack a pistol when heading to this trail system and get ready to file an insurance claim if your parking a vehicle. I wasn't there longer than an hour and my window was shot out. Winter trails are little slick but over all has some great trails if you can deal in the hood. Also keep and eye out for Motorcycles and ATV's cruising at mach speed.

Summary:
Decent place for an afterwork ride. Lots of horse crap and nettles, though. 16 miles??? I've ridden these trails for two years and unless there is a hidden network of trails, my guess is that it has maybe 8 rideable miles. Don't build jumps or obstacles on the trails unless you're willing to have the motorcycles and horses destroy them. Overall, it's a good place for East/South Tacoma residents to get dirt under your wheels when you don't have a lot of time to visit a more extensive trail network.
