Once a year
Reviewed by: Jim rom Olympia
Well we did it again. On Saturday October 25 at 7:30 AM we left the Mima trailhead and returned at 7:00 PM, 63 miles and 7700' of climbing later. This year we had 9 people: Jim 1, Paul, Austin, Chris 1, Peter, Loren, Chris 2, Todd and me. Everyone rode strong and we had no injuries and only one broken chain as far as mechanicals go. Not a single flat out of 18 wheels!! (now I've just jinxed us for next year). I think the Valley of Death was one of the best parts. We were totally wasted already and anyone who wasn't was about to be. Going into that valley is like entering a black hole in time combined with a high concentration mt biker kryptonite. We all met our maker in there. DID YOU SEE THE SIZE OF THAT CHICKEN!!! (if you've seen the movie, you'll know what I'm talking about).
This year we made some changes. The route will always be based on three factors: distance of 60 miles, a general circumnavigation of Capitol Forest and epic descents, in that order. We started at Mima trail head, went to Fall Creek, went over to the old Bordeaux Camp, wrapped around the back side up to Larch Mt, down to Porter Creek, up to Wedekind, down to Fall Creek, through the VALLEY OF DEATH and back to Mima Trailhead. Total mileage was 63 miles and total climbing was 7700'.
Other recommended trails in the same area:
All of them. If you want more info email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will be riding it again next fall. 2002 was 57 miles, 2003 was 63 and next year we will aim for more. Come join us!
