Silvia Ridge Loop

Average Rating:    (3.5 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 2

Built by mt bikers for mt bikes. Rarely abused by kids or motorized. Single track through the woods does not get much better. Locals (I am one) would hate this sharing but we are far enough out that only weekenders will crowd very well maintained trail. If you have the time or energy after doing this loop both ways, get a Montesano City Forestry map and check out the Silvia East Fork, Grouse Ridge, Cougar Ridge ten mile loop. Mostly single track, great hill climb/descent, some cool ridge top ATV double track and a quiet fireroad return.

Trail Directions
Two miles behind Montesano to Lake Silvia State Park. Go over the bridge and park, head West along the lake, turn left up the hill on fire road for 500 ft, then left for a short push up start of trail. Fabulous single track up and along ridge. Ride up and back or around on fire roads 1.5 miles and finish with Hamby Hill to Lower Silvia Creek Loop to make a glorious 75 minute work out.

Summary:
This is a nice short ride, a bit of technical challenge, a couple heart-pumping climbs and isolation. The Sylvia Ridge portion is short, but has some fun technical points. Fun stuff. I ride this for a quick evening workout frequently.

Recommended Route:
West down either side of lower Lake Sylvia loop trail (watch for hikers on nice days), up Hamby hill, back along some logging roads, along Syvia Ridge trail and back along upper Lake Sylvia loop trail.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Sylvia Creek Loop. See review.

Summary:
Great ~five mile after work ride. Mostly all tight MTB single track built by MTBers an mostly left alone by the motorized crowd. Helps that the best entry points are within Lake Silvia State Park. Rainy season is here so soft organic dirt trails become mud if abused so please use common sense before the summer dry out.

Recommended Route:
City of Montesano Forestry trail maps recommend heading West down Silvia Creek Loop, up Hamby Hill, around on logging roads to Silvia Ridge Trail then back to State Park parking lot. I ride it both ways but riding up Silvia Ridge and down Hamby Hill means more time on the bike, less pushing.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
East Fork Silvia Trail up and back is a great ride, or add Cougar Ridge Trail to make a loop finishing on West Fork (old logging railroad grade-ATV mudholes) or the X-line logging road return.
