Cross Country Rider Summary: This is a desert trail with both single and double track portions; in fact some of the route is shared with vehicles (the northern portion). Northern access is via highway 21 to Lakeview Ranch Road and then 3 miles to the ranch house (buildings on the west of the road, ranch house on the east side along with the former Pacific Lake (dry)). There are loops leading off the trail and another trail leading from the ranch buildings west past a couple of lakes. The double track area is suitable for side-by-side riding. Some of the trails are hard to follow (but some have signposts). In general you can ride a trail until you feel like it's too difficult and just turn back. No grinding uphills (but a couple spots where I have had to push) or heart racing downhills. Just a good x/c ride through the desert and rim rock. Recommended Route: The trail from Odessa north is 12.9 miles and can be shuttled easily. You can ride it in either direction. If you camp at the Ranch you can ride the marked "TRAIL" west of the BLM readerboard up into the hills and past a couple of lakes to intersect with the main trail. There is also a loop north of this intersection (about 3 miles from the north trailhead).
