A 2-3 year old trail, 8 miles in length. Primitive single and double track, share-use trail that services hikers, mountain bikes and horses. Additional loops can be added (Tarbell, Cold Creek, Murphy Grade or return via paved Dole Valley Road. Access from Moulton Falls Park or Lucia Falls Park (Starting from Lucia adds another 2.1 miles of baby-stroller type trail).
Bells Mountain trail is a low elevation trail that stays below 1500 feet at it''s highest point. The trail goes through fir and alder forests with glimpses of Mt St. Helens, Mt Adams and Dole Valley. The trail follows Cedar Creek for much of the way, sometimes at creek level and occasionally at the edge of a valley above the creek, cross two clear cuts offer clear views.
The first 3-4 miles are steep (20-25% inclines), but most of the trail is ride able for expert level mountain bikers with good fitness and a 34 tooth granny. Second half of trail is rolling terrain that offers some fast steep downhill sections. A few old motorcycle trails cross the Bells Mt. trail, but follow the section of trail that''s that has the most wear and has new wooden bridges over the creek crossings.
Five miles NE of Battle Ground on Lucia Falls road to Moulton Falls Parking lot (higher lot has additional parking). 1/2 mile walk through park (OK to ride at slow speed, but watch for drunk locals)over pedestrian bridge to Bells Mtn. trailhead, Follow wide gravel baby stroller trail for another 1/2 mile, kiosk marks the start of Bells Mountain Trail.
Optional start from Lucia Falls Park. Head up river on wide baby stroller type trail, look for Bells Mtn. Trail kiosk @ 2.1 miles.
Summary: Fun and challenging trail. Mostly singletrack. The first couple miles may be the toughest climb I've ridden (quite steep and unrelenting), but don't be discouraged, even if you have to walk some sections (which you will). Eventually, the trail reaches an apex and cuts across a swath of clearcut, allowing beautiful views of mt. st. helens and the surrounding valley, then continues to roll along downhill. Eventually, you drop all the way down to creek (perhaps cold creek?) and roll along upstream for a few miles before entering rock creek campground.
A great ride, the first part is extremely strenuous, but rewarding.
Recommended Route: From moulten falls, cross the high bridge near upper falls and turn right along a wide gravel path for apprx. 1/3 mile. Then take bell mountain trail to the left and climb for a ways. Eventually, ou will reach a logging road. Cross it and continue down to the creek. Travel along to creek until you reach a bridge and a sign with a 4 trail intersection. Take the trail leading to the left and continue to cold creek day use area. Take the gravel road out of the camp and turn right down another gravel road. Go for about 1 mile, then you hit an intersection with a wide road. Turn left to rock creek campground. Evntually the road becomes paved. Continue down the paved road about 4 miles until an intersection. Tun left and travel for another few miles. At the end of a steep decent, turn left again, bike for a few hundred feet, and you arrive at moutlen falls.
Aprox. 13 miles

Summary: Yeah...I remember getting trashed up on Bell MTN....when I was in HIKE..SKOOL..however, I wish I knew all of these trails when I was in high school, but now I live in Puyallup...and I hope that all intelligent high school students can find a solid place like Bell MTN or Silverstar MTN where they can just get away from the local cops and enjoy themselves either way.

The first 3 miles of this trail kick my butt, the climbs are steep with loose rocks and roots making for a very technical climb that require a good level of fitness. Middle section was through fir and alder forests, lots of small wooden bridge to cross, mud bogs and a few sections were double track (motorized quads have used trail too). Last 2-3 miles are more rolling type terrain, fun middle ring stuff.
Expect 1.5-2 hours to do one way, return via Bells Mtn trail of opt out on paved Dole Valley road. 16 miles out and back or 19 miles total with the Dole Valley return route.
Optional loop up Murphy Grade (un-mark old double track/motorcycle type trail off of Road L1000) that climbs up to the jct of Larch Mtn/Cold Creek trail for @ 4-5 miles. Then take the Larch Mtn./Cold Creek trail down to road L1000 4 miles. Return via L1000 and Dole Valley road or re-trace via Bells Mtn trail. Expect 4-5.5 hours for total route(s).
Recommended Route: Up Bells Mtn Trail from Lucia Falls Park (you'll need a good warm up before you hit the Bells Mtn trail), cruise through Cold Creek CG, then back tracked to Bells Mtn. trail which hooks into Tarbell/Larch Mtn trail. Once you cross road L1000 (grave road) you turn around and back track to Lucia Falls park or continue on towards Rock Creek CG via the Tarbell/Larch Mtn. trail @ 1 mile).
Water well at Rock Creek CG and a camp Host.
