Lots of variety on this ride. Starts ot as a wide easy multi-use trail for the first 1.5 miles then narrows to single track but not to difficult. At about 2 miles it turns into some pretty decent technical sections for about .5 miles. At 2.5 miles you open up onto about 2 miles of clear cut area that gives great views of the Skykomish River Valley and then dives back into the woods. At about 6 miles you end up at Wallace Lake, a clean clear hikers/bikers only accessible lake! From the lake various trails branch of to Wallace Falls and some fine mountain views.
Head East on US2 from Everett towards Stevens Pass. 35 miles east of Everett is the town of Gold Bar. Turn left just past the grocery store and old gas station. Go to the end of First Street and turn right at the stop sign. Follow the road approximately 2 miles to the entrance of Wallace Falls State Park. Don't forget to sign in at the trail head!
Summary: Just rode it with my wife this past Saturday. The ride is a constant, but steady uphill for about 7 miles to the lake. Only one short section I had to walk, because it was too steep and filled with rocks, but I also had 30 lbs hanging on my back, with all the things we needed for the day. The current condition of the trail is fine, with some small and rare puddles of mud, which are always fun!!! I love mud. Scenery and views are nice. The Wallace Lake is a very secluded, quiet area, and offers some fishing, which we of course did once we got there. It took about 3-4 hours to get up there from parking lot, with taking lots of time to stop and enjoy the views. The ride down was fun, but could be better. The singletrack parts of the trail were the best. Ride down is about 30-40 minutes if you go non-stop. Oh, and you basically don't see anyone on this trail, especially if you go 1-2 miles away from the parking lot.
Recommended Route: Drive to Gold Bar on Hwy 2, then when in town, just follow the signs to the park. Park at the Wallace Falls State Park parking lot. The trail starts near the restrooms, you'll see it. Then when you come to a fork, take the left. There'll be another fork later on, and take left again.

Summary: I rode it to the Lake and back. I was expecting it to be very muddy but it wasn't at all (as for February). There is around 1500 feet elevation gain to the Lake on over 6 miles distance. Practically up hill all the way. Then down hill all the way back. Not my favorite, I prefer many hills on the trail. Nothing spectacular but good training ride. What I liked was the different kinds of trails. From smooth gravel roads to very bumpy and sleepery single track. Nice views. I'll go there again someday to get to the falls.
Recommended Route: There is no choice.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Lord Hill Park. I recommend it only because it's close to South Everett/Mill Creek area. Around 7 mile loop on easy wide trail.

Summary: A little single track a little logging road and alot of rocks. Bring a extra tube if you have a hardtail. It's gradual uphill for about 6 1/2 miles to Wallace lake, then there are other trails from the lake. The way down is well worth the ride up, on weekends you might hit someone on the way down if you are not careful but during the weekday--Go for it-- you'll probably be the only one there.
Recommended Route: Start at the Wallace falls parking lot--note-- You will have to start paying $5.00 a day to park. This trail and park was almost closed down because of lack of funds, so be cool.

Summary: Not too difficult of a ride. It is nice to have a destination such as Wallace Lake and the falls. I don't know how this ride is 20 miles, felt more like 10 or a bit more. Loggin roads are okay, views of clear-cuts are not too impressive, but there are nice views of the valley, river and other mountains. Overall, I had a fun time riding this trail and would do it all over again.
Recommended Route: Follow the trail from the parking lot. Take the Woodsy Trail parting from the regular hiking trail (left). Signs are posted most of the way. Not too difficult to find your way to the lake.

Summary: I rode this trail because I was in the area and I figured what the heck even though some people had given it a lowly 1 star rating. Let's get something straight up front, a 1 star trail is a whole heck of a lot better than a zero star trail which is the rating for sitting at home thinking about going riding. So diminished expectations made this a lot of fun. A nice climb on a wide path, yes, half of it is a switch backed road through clearcut, but all in all just fine. And there was a destination, an actual lake, as opposed to riding around on a trail all day and then getting in the car. The ride down was great. So no real rolling single track but a nice out-in-the-woods experience nonetheless. Went back again a few days later on a Saturday. The parking lot was jammed and settlers down the road sold parking for $2, but once out on the trail it was basically deserted. Compare and contrast to Tiger Mountain on a weekend which has more people and testosterone than a crowded locker room. Don't waste your time. Still searching for the right combo of distance from the city, a nice ride and not too many people.
Recommended Route: Up and back.
Other recommended trails in the same area: St. Edwards for city folk who want regular practice without the drive (you can ride out there even).
