Siouxon Trail

Small 3-4 mile section on FR 5701 to the end of 5701. Mainly single track downhill with several small hills and water run-off crossings. Very enjoyable downhill single track sections offering high speeds, cornering and jumping. Trail continues on for another 8-9 miles. Many people ride the trail from trail head on FR58 down to the end of FR5701. Have not tried that direction yet.

Summary:
This is a SICK trail. It's super fast and buff on the lower 8 miles and we just finished cleaning out the upper 5 miles, which are steeper in places and still need some work, but overall this is a classic trail. The old growth, the creek, the rippin' downhill with great flow, and the challenging sections that we just cleared make this a must ride if you're in the area! Supposedly the Chelatchie Rd from Amboy is passable now, either way the trail is accessible from Carson, WA and the Wind River Hwy up to Rd 58. Have fun!!!

Recommended Route:
Either direction would be great, it's an out and back. The low point is in the middle so you're climbing out regardless of direction.

Unfortunately I didn't make it to the trail today, FR54 is washed out in a few places 5 miles from the trail head! I took a few wrong turns and was wiped out from climbing....plan to try again when I have more time. Stay tuned....

Summary:
This trail is a lot of fun! Some of the downhills are fast and smooth, and some are full of roots and rocks. The climbs aren't too difficult, but definitely make you feel like you earned it. After riding ov 16 miles, the last climb back to my car just about killed me :-) There are some obvious log rides and some not so obvious ones along the trail, so if you're into that sort of thing, keep a look out. The last 2 miles (out)had some downed trees and washed out areas that required hike-a-bike, but nothing too bad. There are awesome views of the creek and water falls along the way.

Recommended Route:
There are two parking areas/trailheads. The first is on the left side of FR 5701 about 100-125 yards after a sharp right turn. The trail is a kind of hard to see, so keep a close watch. The second trailhead is at the end of FR 5701. According to my computer, starting at the first trailhead you can do an 18 mile out and back. According to the book I have, starting from the second trailhead means a 12.5 mile out and back.

Mt. Saint Helens

Summary:
Just a quick update on an old-time favorite. Unfortunately, this trail has never been more popular, but it is in really great shape. Enough climbing to challenge most anyone. Mostly rolling singletrack with great views and stream crossings.

Recommended Route:
I like using the upper trailhead on 5701 and riding down to the waterfall and bridge and back...that climb in the last 1.5miles up to the trailhead can seem pretty brutal (but short)

Summary:
This is one beautiful piece of ST that rolls along above the crystal clear creek with views of old growth forests and waterfalls. I loved it. Its not technical, but its a very smooth trail except for a couple of skiddish cliff parts and creek crossings.

Recommended Route:
I started from thed of Rd. 5701 at the trail head and followed the main trail (130) for 6 or 7 miles and came back.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Post Canyon, Browns Camp
