Mukilteo Japanese Gulch
16 reviews
 3.81 of 5

Plenty of single track, logging roads and the best drops I have seen in this area by far. The teeter-totter is f@%!ing amazing! There are other entrances to these trails, so if you start from the main trailhead, you're going to be doing some climbing right off the bat! You know what that means though...you get to come back down eventually! The trails run on both the East and West sides of the railroad tracks and the trains do run so be careful. These trails are maintained by the Japanese Gulch Crew and it looks like they have put a lot of effort into this area so if you show up...ride respectfully!

Ridden Trail:
Once a month

Summary:
Well the trail has been pretty well gutted. I rode it last weekend and man was I bummed. Many of the stunts have been torn down to make play forts from the wood or thoroughly honked up. The teeter is GONE! Someone must have dragged the old truck out of the woods. Log ride to drop...gone. 6' stump...ladder approach torn out. There used to be a bunch of good lines where you could play connect the drops but many of the ladders and bridges are gone and although someone has been working on some dirt jumps, they're not really set up for big bikes. There are some good drops left but unless a bunch have been built in a new section, it's a real disappointment. Keep in mind, I was out to ride the stunt area near the top and stayed mostly in that area (didn't feel like too much climbing on my DH pig) but I did ride much of the single track up there looking for any new stuff. I don't know about the east side of the tracks or down closer to the water. There is still a bunch of fun singletrack, ridable by just about anyone on anything, and some nice hucks left but I want the big teeter!

Recommended Route:
I usually start at the top on the West side.

Summary:
We ride these trails 2-3 times a week and never get bored there is always a different route to take, or you can continue to perfect some of the technical routes. The northshore stuff is around nicely hidden. The no trespassing signs are on the south side only I ride that side at least once a week and have never had a problem. B.N. railroad law states that you can not ride within 150 of the tracks Officer Fife does patrol the tracks ride there at your own risk. Excellant single track for a more experianced rider. I recommend up the north side boyz 2 men then cross the tracks to the south side climb back to the top and then there are countless loops 1 with a series of logs. Carefull on the downhill there is a price to pay for a crash there were at least half a dozen airlifts last season. Please respect the homeowners park at the bottom in the gravel parking lot. There is the occasional paint ball game if you respect them they seem to respect us it a large area. Japanese Gulch bike club does an excellant job of maintaining these trails respect that. Can somebody from the club contact me. The guys I ride with would like to help with the maintenace. We are there all the time.

Recommended Route:
If you are a wussy ride the gravel up otherwise you can enter the north side by crossing the bridge and doubling back behid the guard rail. Or just enter the south side from the parking lot and CLIMB.

Reviewed by: Blackie , from Everett

Summary:
Come on fools it's wet time, there's the huge sand pit area and sand+wet=jump time. With a bit of work the pit could be going off, there's a horseshoe shaped loop, heading north, starting on the second tier, above the two exsisting jumps in the pit, that I recently trimmed back the briars on. It's perfect for a good legenth of jump trail, complete with a nice big berm. It just needs a few swarthy lads with shovels in hand to FUS.

Recommended Route:
East side of the tracks has no posted warnings

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Toaster, Smackdown,Pilchuk (you have the guy who runs the Elsworth dealership in Arlington to blame for no more stunts up in there) 21 jumpstreet (deadend of 21st Ave. heading West)
