Grand Ridge

The county has 3,000 acres of park land north of the highway. They are building a new trail from the RR grede to Duthie Hill Park. About 5 miles are done. Trail is open to hikers, bikers and horses. 2 very nice climbs and decents. The Washington Trails Asc. will have many work parties out there this winter. See wta.org for details. This is a killer deal for those w/o cars, just take the bus to the Issaquah P & R or closer. When done it will be 7 miles long so that''s 14 miles out and back. Now that''s real ride! Some large second groth trees and loads of ferns.

Summary:
Not a very technical trail. Lot of climbing and long stretches of single track. You can start at the bottom near I-90 or at the top of the Issaquah Plateau. There are some areas that are un-rideable but for the most part it is fast single track. This is a good trail to test your aerobic capacity.

If you like long stretches of single track with some climbing this might be the trail for you. If you like going over trees and rocks this trail will disappoint you.

Recommended Route:
If you start at the bottom, it is actually easier than starting at the top of the Plateau. Lots of climbing which will test you aerobic ability.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Beaver Lake and Tolt

Summary:
This was once but a small part of a vast network of trails that criss-crossed King county, but have been damaged or isolated by development. This is detailed in the book "Kissing the Trail", By John Zilly (1st edition).

This trail was in great shape last time I rode it, and I suspect that the network is slowly growing new routes to bypass areas affected by the development on the ridge. It is my understanding that the City of Issaquah/BBTC is supporting / sponsoring trailbuilding in this area, and if you're local, consider volunteering.

Recommended Route:
If you like climbing (or descending) there is a great climb up from the old railroad grade on the north side of I-90, East of Issaquack. There are a number of Geocaches up here, if you are so inclined. There is also a high explorability quotient if you want to find alternate access to this trail. This is a multi-user trail, so PLEASE be careful on descents (or blazing climbs) - nothing shuts down trails like pi$$ed-off hikers / equestrians.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Area 34, Tolt, Tokul, Tiger, Ya Know....
