Downhiller Summary: Just an update...starting from the main trailhead, a lot of trees have been cleared but still a significant landslide was enough to turn me around, maybe a mile or two into this trail. I started at the main trailhead and went under the bridge to ride the main trail.
Note: this trail is properly named...very flat in the small area I explored...the short downills I got were fun, though.po Recommended Route: I don't know...I was going to do Ranger Creek but I wasn't sure if I had enough time. I will post a better opinion when I have one Other recommended trails in the same area: I don't know, I learned to ride at Galbraith MTN in Bellingham...So far...since I moved to Puyallup, only disappointment. If anyone knows any decent riding, let me know.

Weekend Warrior Summary: WOW. What a gorgeous trail that is totally destroyed from the flooding. Every 200-300 feet is a huge tree in the trail. Me and the wife were riding when it was snowing but only rode a half mile and had to dismount from our bikes 4 times and climb over trees that were 3-4 foot tall. This place is worth stopping off just to see the views if you are headed to Crystal Mountain or just passing through but I would not advise making a mountain bike trip for this one. You will be very dissapointed. Hopefully they will repair the trail in the spring or summer. Recommended Route: None until repaired.

Cross Country Rider Summary: This is a great trail to ride. I was recently in the area and staying at Mount Ranier. This trail is about a 15-20 minute car ride from the Copper River area of the park. I rented a bike and rode from one end to the other and back again. Technically the trail is not extremely difficult although there were a couple of tough climbs and drops that I had to walk or dab. The trail has some fast rolling sections and downhills and there are some steep climbs and switchbacks that make you work to get your reward. The trail is a mix of nice dirtpack and loamy sections with some rocks, roots, and boulders thrown in to keep you on your toes. This trail is a good trail for almost all riders. There are enough challenges and fast riding to keep advanced riders on their toes but the technical areas come in short sections so that beginners/intermediate riders don't have far to walk if they so choose. However, the trail is probably somewhat too advanced for pure novice riders. Overall, with the trail composition, technical features, and scenery, this is one of the best trails that I have ever ridden. A definite must if you are in the area.
For the out-of-towners, the only rental that I could find near the area was Black Diamond Bike & Backcountry. They were a great help and hooked me up with a sweet bike at a good price. I would recommend them along with the trail.

Weekend Warrior Summary: Update. Trail pass is now $5. You can get one from the local stores on the way to the trailhead.
I took trail for about 5 miles in and back. The trail is nicely marked with bridges and it's very clear what's the trail and what's not the trail. This is just what mtn bike trail should be - plenty of ups, downs, flats and bumpy places. It's a beautiful ride next to the river and through the woods. It's quite challenging getting up some of the rooted, rocky sections. Going down is the reward however. Bring plenty of water and food. Also the weather is usually significantly cooler here because of the alpine climate so bring your extra shell. Recommended Route: Take Hwy. 410 out of Enumclaw toward Mt. Rainier. (Local bike shop has maps of trail too.) It's about 30+ miles to the trailhead. You will know you're close when you pass into the town of Greenwater and see the stores, gas station, etc. Beyond Greenwater start looking on the right hand side for road signs. Take road #73 - it will be marked by one of the yellow intersection signs. Follow the road about .25 mile across the bridge. The trailhead starts immediately after the bridge on the left side - it's marked trail #1194. It's #1194 on Greentrails map "Greenwater, WA - No 238" too. Follow trail and enjoy. Other recommended trails in the same area: Sun Top - also on Green Trails map #238 Greenwater WA. I haven't done it but I've heard that it's a tough, beautiful ride to the top of Sun Top mtn. The elevation at the top is 5700 ft from 2500 feet around the start of the trail.

Weekend Warrior Summary: Rode this trail 10/24/03 and found a bit of damage after the recent heavy rains. Started from the downriver trailhead and found a washed out section about a mile in, maybe fifty feet or so of the trail was gone. I could work my way around it, but the river bank that is left is corniced and will probably be gone before long. There are also several sections where the river had run along the trail and left behind a lot of black sand(and one dead salmon). I only rode up river as far as the suspension bridge so did not see it, but a rider I met coming downriver said that there were a couple of washed out areas beyond that.
