Weekend Warrior Summary: Two friends (with whom I have cycled the Idaho Panhandle and Trail Hiawatha) and I went on a "scouting trip" of this trail in mid-late July (2006). We started in Sedro and went as far as Lyman. We liked the canopies of trees and other scenery so much that we've planned to return in the fall to ride the entire way and check out the fall colors. Should be a treat! Our wildlife sightings in July included garter snakes, a hawk, a huge owl that swooped down over us twice, rabbits, and various little birds. The many wild lilac bushes along the way were a treat. We also enjoyed getting a peek at the river and stopped to snack at the park bench there. Great leisurely ride! There was one washout (after a wooden bridge) where it became confusing as to where we should ride. After a couple of failed attempts, we opted for the creek bed and after about 50-100 yards, that rejoined the trail, and we were on our way again. Official trail distance (per trail web site): 22 miles one way.

, from Concrete, WA Summary: The route is about 30 miles from Sedro to Concrete. It is large crushed rock, typical of RR beds. Things get fairly sore after mile 20 or so. But you can ride on Hwy 20, on the hard shoulder, if you get tired of the trail.

, from Bellingham Summary: Very scenic, coyote, eagle hawk sighting. nice easy cruise Recommended Route: Rode from Sedro Woolley as far as Lyman, out and back 20 miles, 2 hrs, great spot for lunch overlooking skagit river. The total length is 25 miles one-way and I hear the last 6or 7 miles into Conrete is big old ballast and rough.
