Cross Country Rider Summary: As previously described, the best route to take up is around the back side of this little mountain. I'm a local Enumclaw rider and I just discovered this little workout session. If you don't have a bunch of time, and need a hard workout with some good fun thrown in, this steep little mountain is for you. I really don't recommend descending down the front because there is just no clean way to do it without ripping up the trail. Remember, leave no trace. The trail is for hikers and bikers will quickly get banned if they make their presence known. The front side is extremely steep and difficult in places. Only an expert rider would be able to successfully descend on that trail without hurting themselves or someone else. This is a very busy mountain with many visitors each day. The back side is relatively open with a few single track trails to play on after the main climb. Be cautious and courteous of the hikers at all times. They own the right of way so treat them accordingly and be nice. Recommended Route: Back side only - and stay there. Please don't think it would be fun to bomb down the front side. There are too many hikers to be safe about it. Other recommended trails in the same area: Mud Mountain Dam - It's name fits though.

Cross Country Rider Summary: This is a pretty sweet ride. It is REALLY short, so I wouldn't travel far to ride it unless you are planning on riding something else in the area like Palisades or something. Anyway, It is really steep, narrow, with tree roots, rocks, and water wear eroding the soil. It's pretty technical, and the switchbacks are pretty sharp. I know a couple people who went off the trail into the bushes cause they missed the switchback. I actually had to stop and put my feet down a couple times to make some switchbacks, but if you're a decent rider you might not need to. It was a blast though. Watch out for people. Since it's such a short ride and there are a lot of hikers I gave it a lower rating. Other than that it's pretty fun. Recommended Route: Ride up the gravel road on the back side, then ride down the front side. Other recommended trails in the same area: Victor Falls, Crystal Mountain. I haven't ridden palisades yet, hopefully I'll try that this summer.
