Ridden Trail: Every few months

Cross Country Rider Summary: Great Trail. Just rode it on June 26th and it is already getting dusty/dry. The top 1 mile or so has been impacted by horse use, but you wont notice it after the rock garden. Still fast, but not tacky, maybe you can get lucky and ride it after a rainstorm. That would be epic. We rode the shortcut I know and it was an easy 2 hours up, 1:15 down. The lower section is dry and dusty but still very ridable - not moto'd out. Ride this trail and you will not be disappointed. Trail recently cleared. Dont let the 3's fool you, you will be tired and shot after this ride, but smiling like a fool. Recommended Route: Up 1709, then there is a shortcut up the 356 road- take the jeep trail on the right hand side at the end of the road in the little grassy area. This will bring you out right at the 1600-1700 road intersection and only 2 miles from the trail head. Watch for elk. Other recommended trails in the same area: Lots of horse trails in nile area can be fun to ride from camp. According to a few sources, there are way over 50 miles of horse trails. I have rode some of them myself. Little Naches trails- watch for moto's.

Cross Country Rider Summary: How many ways can I say EPIC. I laugh because the trail description say 12 miles and for those of you that do shuttles that is exactly how far of a ride you'll get. Just don't think that it's all downhill. The 15 mile road climb is the east part. Middle ring for the fit. It's when you hit the trail the the real work begins. The climbs on the singletrack are difficult. The descent is worth every effort. Lot's of good flow to this trail. Big grin all the way down. Very dusty, rocky and technically demanding. Definately a full suspension kind of trail. Recommended Route: Don't wimp out. Do it as a loop. Park at Halfway flats campground and take the fire road at the back of the area. 1709 will take you right to the trailhaed. Ride singletrack all the way down to the bottom. Turn west (left) when you hit the bottom and it's just a short ride back the the campground.

, from Seattle Summary: Rated at intermediate in Zillys book and 25 miles, rated skilled and or difficult in all other books and 30 miles. Actual milage without climbing to summit is 25 miles. Ridden on 6/14/03 snow free. Recommended Route: From Halfway flats campground off hwy 410, follow river south from west side of Nachess river, deal with nasty section of wash out, ride road 7109 which turns into 1706 to 1600 then 10 miles of trail. remember to bring lots of water, and maybe an extra tube as it is rocky. the last 4 miles are incredible. Watch out for rubber water bars last several miles. Always take trail, don't opt out at road crossings, turn right to find trails when intersecting logging roads. Other recommended trails in the same area: Noble knob or Ranger creek, Sun Top and Fawn ridge.

, from Buckley Summary: It was dry and sunny for our ride. The trail is fast on the down hills which are plenty. Swoops around and up and down. Hard & soft pack abound. Wear glasses especially if you are behind your buddy. A couple of times I lost sight of the trail because of the dust cloud. One word...Hayes. My forearms ached so much from breaking on this trail. It was worth it of course. Never had that happen riding at Victor's. There were two things I didn't like on this trail. 1) Heights. If you are scared of heights be warned now. The first part of the trail and some other spots further down put you right on the edge of a drop. I didn't look down...focused on the trail cause it was a few "small" inches in width and made it. 2)There are rock patches in a couple of places that break up the nirvana of down hill speed on this trail. Full suspension in these parts would help alot. I did it on a HT and it beat me up some...have fat tires(2.4 front/2.3 rear)Susp post and strong down hill 36 hole rims. The views are spectacular. We had a warm sunny day in October and it was perfect for freak'n out on a crazy down the mountain trail. There are some up hills on this trail. Altitude may hamper your ability to climb them. All said and done I found this trail challenging but very fun. It tested my fear of heights and my ability to control the bike on high speed descents as well as through rock gardens. Have fun...we did! Recommended Route: Up 7900 to 1600. There is a sign at 1600 that tells you Lt.Bald mountain 3 more miles. I recommend driving and not grinding up the road. Going to need them legs for the trail. Have some one drop you there otherwise you have to drive back up(long drive) 7900 to get your rig. Other recommended trails in the same area: Not yet.

, from boulder colorado Summary: Get yourself to this trail!!! I'M AMAZED IT DOESN'T HAVE MORE POSTS!! I rode this trail back in 2000 when I lived in Washington - courtesy of John Zilly's guidebook (thank you John!!) and I still think back to it as one of my all time favorites ( and I live in Colorado now and have ridden all over the country! ) I remember Zilly commenting that it was one of his all time favorite downhills, and having done Lots of his quality rides, I knew I was in for something good. RIGHT-O!! The rd climb is long but perfect grade and super doable. Then a short but slight sketchy downhill and a talus slope and then a small uphill - which you don't appreciate as you're beat - keep going! The top part of the trail I liked (not loved) lots of lose fist sized rocks in general on this trail - but man as it kept going, and going, and going downhill - faster and sidehilling and hooping and hollering I fell in love!! And, it finishes with a Bang - plunging down to the finish with those rubber water bars just to make it crazier! Yee-ow. Then you have to scramble up above a river for 50ft or so - nuts - but you'll survive. My buddy and I still talk about this ride years later. Someday I vow to return. ps this trail would be a lot more fun with a full suspension bike and some nice conti 2.3 vertical pro tires (they're awesome) to help iron out some of the rocky terrain. Now good do it. Then go over to the Methow Valley and start in on their rides - WA has so many good rides and most folk in US don't have a clue...
