Cross Country Rider Summary: This is not a weekend getaway destination by any means. It is, however, a solid routine for me after work or whenever I want a good workout without spending half a day getting there and back. This area actually surrounds Round Lake. Lacamas Lake is the much larger lake across the road. Recommended Route: Park at the lower trailhead on the road between Camas & Washgoual (go east from the Camas Safeway about an eighth of a mile, and you will see this lot over the bank on your left), ride up to and around the lake a few times to make a good workout - it's probably about a mile around the lake itself. Then, don't miss the "moguls". To get there, head south at the WEST end of the dam on Round Lake. This will take you across the face of a smaller dam and into an area that might be called a "bicycle playground". There are lots of informally-developed jumps and tight twists around trees. There is nothing very technical, but it is a great place to work on balance in preparation for those weekend switchbacks. Other recommended trails in the same area: Three Corner Rock

Weekend Warrior Summary: This is a good trail close to Vancouver and Portland. Some nice short single track sections and nice scenery of the creek, Potholes and a lake. You can get a nice little workout with approx. 6 mile loop. Recommended Route: Around south side of lake from trailhead. Turn south and the trail goes along the stream to a bridge you cross over to west side of stream. Ride down to south trailhead and then backtrack back to bridge. Cross bridge and go straight heading east. Begin a continuous climb for about a mile to east trailhead. Backtrack and go right at the fork. Take your second right for a short section that takes you back to the lake. Hang a right at the lake and ride approx. 1.25 miles to the trailhead on the northside of lake. Take the paved road west to main road and hang a left. Go over bridge and back to west trailhead. Have fun and respect the hikers and joggers (We don't won't to loose our right to ride here) Thanks, DC Other recommended trails in the same area: Wish I knew somemore in the area.

, from Vancouver, WA Summary: I think people are missing the point about this trail. Yes, it's not really technical, and a lot of it is wide gravel pathways. You might even have to dodge a pile of dog poop now and then! Bottom line: You're not going to develop mad skills here. Boo Hoo! What you will get, if you ride here two to three times a week, even in the winter, is a great workout, and you'll stay in shape for those big weekend rides. It's right in near town - 5 minute drive from work/home for me and many others - so no excuses! Get out there and ride! It's a fun enough trail for weekday workouts, and if you keep your eyes open, you'll find some fun jumps here and there. Recommended Route: Anywhere -- do it all. Other recommended trails in the same area: Prune Hill, Cold Creek

, from Portland, OR, USA Summary: I went to LaCamas lake with pretty low expectations based on the reviews here. I was bringing a friend on one of his first clipless SPD rides so I figured we'd hit something easy. To my surprise, we ended up doing the whole big figure 8 twice and getting some decent exercise. If you are constantly looking for the singletrack off the main trail there are a few sections which are actually fun. All in all, for a trail this close to the city, it makes a good beginner ride. Recommended Route: Find all the singletrack you can. Do it two or three times for more fun. Other recommended trails in the same area: Larch Mt.

, from Vancouver, WA Summary: it seems to me that people look at this park and say, "there's no 35' drops or insane technical sections. this place sucks!" but if you are just looking for a nice 1 hour ride, this is a pretty cool place. the trail down to the South Falls, while not particularly challenging, is a lot of fun. no this place doesn't have a 4000' elevation change and yes there are hikers to look out for here and there, but its a nice relaxing ride with great scenery. check the park out, but leave your body armor at home with your freeride bike. Recommended Route: from vancouver take first street east until it ends at a 'T' junction. turn left and then and immediate right into the park's parking lot. Other recommended trails in the same area: that one with the hills... no, the other one.
