Mill Mountain Park

Average Rating:    (3.5 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 2

Multiple trails dot Mill Mountain.
Trails have signs at intersections and are blazed. They are somewhat tedious to link into a loop (I'll post more on that.)

Summary:
Sweet trail's within 5 minutes (by bike) from downtown Roanoke. Great for a quick after work or pleasure ride. Good aerobic workout with a fair amount of climbing. Trails are not very technical but there are a few rough spots (rocks & junk). Very well maintained, but not to the point of taking all of the fun out of it. It's sometimes hard to beleive you were just in town a few minutes before. We are very blessed to have this park.

Recommended Route:
I change it up most of the time to keep the ride interesting. For a quick ride from downtown I will ride up Walnut Ave., turn right on Sylvan (old road to the top), get on Big Sunny (junk car trail to some) @ the 3rd switchback, left @ fork onto Riser at the top cross the road to Monuement (best trail on the mountain) back down to Sylvan Dr.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
There are a ton of places to ride in the area some faves are Carvins Cove (of course), Fort Lewis Mountain, Dragonsback (will kill you if not in top shape)& Spec Mines to name a few.

Recommended Route:
One loop with repeated trails - Start at the top @ Discovery Center, go down Ridgeline Trail, right on Riser, Right on Big Sunny, Follow old road down to Monument. Climb Monument to Ridgeline. Left on Ridgeline. At bottom, look for a path on left to take you to JP Fishburn Parkway, go up JPFish to a right on Woodthrush. Take Woodthrush to bottom, WALK Star Trail to JP Fishburn Parkway (either go back up the road to top or go down the road) If you go down the road, take left on Sylvan (old road) up to Monument or Big Sunny for climb to the top.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Carvin's Cove, Explore Park
