Summary:
this park will please the sunday cruisiers to hard core riders. the lake trail is a really good cardio work out but if you want to get mean when your on the back side of lake on the lake trail be sure and hit the single track that the park has to offer.

Recommended Route:
take the lake trail around to "ridge trail" and start going up. work your way around to "CCC trail" this makes the killer climb up ridge trail well worth it because the .9 down hill is awesome, this trail will keep heart pounding with the tight single track, switch backs and most of all the speed. this will end ya up back to the lake trail. with "CCC","middle ridge","ridge"trail all leading off of the "lake trail" there really is no bad route.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Crawfish Valley, Rural Retreat. 13 miles of hell

Summary:
The trail consists of something for everyone. The ride starts by crossing a new man made brige near the swimming area. The path is wide hard packed gravel around the front portion of the lake with spectacular views of the lake. The trail is flat on this portion of the ride. The next portion of the ride passes the spillway to another parking lot. This is where the ride beckons to the more experienced riders. The inclines are up hill and oh boy what a view of the lake. You then pass the old powder house and then you start down a fast downhill to the CCC camp. You may choose to rest and take in the view before your long climb (granny gears only) to start the more technical parts of the ride. The trail is stating to narrow and the mountain laurels make you think you are miles back in the mountain. You have only one very technical downhill before finishing the ride in the camping area of Hungry Mother Park. The six mile ride will wet your appetite as you approach the campsites and wonderful smells of hamburgers and hotdog roasting on the grills. This is a one hour ride that is never busy and a blast to ride

Recommended Route:
This trail is located within the Hungry Mother State Park. The park is located three miles North of Marion, Va. on US Hwy 16.The trail starts near the beach area.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
These trails are shorter than the Lake Trail, but much more technical. Raders Run Trail, Old Horse Trail. You will find the map posted outside of The Restaurant located in the middle of the park.
