The trail is a combination of flat gravel covered road ways and demanding climbs with exciting downhill single track.

Summary:
Just rode this trail for the first time today and I absolutely loved it. Let me preface this review with the fact that I am a beginner in the mountain bike realm. That being said this trail was EXACTLY what I was looking for. The trail is slightly wider than a true single track but still narrow enough to make the switchbacks interesting. An awesome array of hills that will certainly challenge anyone new to Mt biking coupled with some elementary obstacles (several switchbacks, a small gravity drop, and some rocks). This is an excellent starter trail that really focuses on the fun side of mountain biking.

Recommended Route:
I rode Counter clockwise and judging from the hills/obstacles this is probably the easier route.

Summary:
If you're looking for a nice aerobic ride but no adventure then this is the trail for you. it's a 6 mile loop around a small lake with nice senic views. The downside is that you are sharing the trail with lot's of hikers and the downhills are too fast to be safe for trail sharing. Overall you'll get a great workout and nice views but this isn't for the more serious riders.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Converted railbed: Va. creeper(Abingdon,Damascus)
single track: highland park.
