Summary:
The trails are not marked so this made my first visit difficult. I would love to go there with a regular rider that knows there way around. There are several places on the trails where large downed trees has caused an alternative route to be created. The trails in general were rooty (no surprise being in the woods) with many switchbacks, and for the most part faily level (with the exception of a few ups and downs. Some trail marking would definitely help mature these trails.

Recommended Route:
Don't know, since there are many forks and the trail isn't marked

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Harwood, Freedom Park

Summary:
Lake Maury (Gatewood) is a great trail, IF you know where you are going, you have to go there at least 5 times, know the trails and know your way around to be able to get out there and just know where you are and where you are going. Don't get me wrong it is still great if you have never been, you just might find yourself doing a couple circles or maybe getting a little lost until you end up somewhere recognizable again. It is an intermediate trail, maybe slightly on the beginner side, but does have some stuff to keep you on your toes and entertained. It is a good workout with at least 10 miles of different trails to ride. I gave it a 4 for aerobic because you can basically make any trail as hard as you want it to be you just have to push yourself, and this trail is fun and entertaining which is what drives me to push myself and get a good work out here.

Recommended Route:
Find one that suits you, there are plenty of them, and seeing as there are no directions and no trail names, I can't tell you what trails I prefer or how to get there lol.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
New Quarter, Freedom, Harwood Mills, York river state park.

Summary:
the trail is simple. not very hard unless you are a beginner. hit the trail atleast twice to get a decent work out. a lot of hills. thats the most technical part about that. some jumps but nothing to crazy. some jumps are just in the wrong spot. other then that go hit the trail if your looking to have a good time and a good work out in the area.

Recommended Route:
enter the trail by the big Park sign at the main road. by the lake.

Summary:
Most of the trails at Lake Maury (Gatewood) are beginner to intermediate with a few tricks for the experts (log piles, skinnies and one Evil Knivel type jump across a stream). The outer loop follows the shoreline of Lake Maury and is closer to intermediate single track because of the numerous roots and a few small steep hills. The inner loop seems to run forever with lots of fast turns that make for exciting riding that will keep you interested for many visits. Its easy to become disoriented while riding the inner loop because it's primarily flat nondescript forest with few feature - you only get a few glimpses of the lake or rail road to obtain your orientation. A map of the park can be found at http://www.gpstrailsource.com/Maps.aspx?MapID=21. This site also has some other parks as well. Does anyone know what the earth works located in the central part of the park are from (Civil War fort or reservoir or ...)? It can sometimes be hard to find parking on a Saturday morning at the Gatewood Rd parking lot - get there early and enjoy.

Recommended Route:
All of the single track is worth riding.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
New Quarter
Freedom Park
York River State Park

Summary:
I've been riding this trail a lot recently. It's really nice, but It'd be sweet if there were like some signs of where trails go or a map. It's Fun to ride around on because of all the different trails. I found some huge jumps today that are right next to the XC trail. There's also a sweet balance beam right in the beginning.

Recommended Route:
None

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Harwood Mills
