This is a multi-loop bi-directional single track trail system. In January 2007 the existing walking trail system was opened to mountainbikers. In March of 2007 the local mtb organization (Eastern Virginia Mountainbike Association - evma.org) added to the existing trail system and included elements interesting to bikers such as log piles and jumps. Some sections of the trail system are designated for hikers only due to erosion concerns. This trail has interesting terrain and technical features. It has more elevation change than any of the peninsula trails.

Summary:
This trail system has a surprising amount of climbing, downhill, and technical features all packed into a small area. The climbs are longer than York River and there are at least 3 downhills longer and more fun than everyone's favorite at Freedom. It's the best all-around trail in the area. The only possible improvement would be to make it longer.

The trail can be ridden in either direction and is hike/bike, so be alert. Here is a link to a map but it currently doesn't show all the trail.

Recommended Route:
Counter-clockwise from the trailhead, go right or straight at all the intersections. Cross the power lines and after an extended climb and a steep technical downhill, turn right and cross a bridge to get to the blue section (lollypop). For a long gradual climb go right at the intersection, or for a short gasping climb go left. Either way brings you to a lookout point with a bench looking towards Westpoint. When you've done the lollypop, go back across the bridge, turn right and cross the powerlines again. Look for the "bike" signs to get back to the trailhead. Now turn around and go back until you go over the bridge that angles up. Turn right onto the section with white markers on the trees and follow it to the top. Turn right at intersection and after a short climb you are at the top of the fastest and most fun downhill. Hop off the right side of the long bridge at the bottom of the downhill and follow trail back to trailhead. If you have energy left, ride the trail clockwise. The climbs are tougher in this direction.

Patriot's Ride at Freedom Park
Redoubt Run at New Quarter Park

Summary:
Awesome new XC trail by EVMA. I find this trail to be the most technically challenging in the area. Lots of tight flowing switchbacks interspersed with short steep climbs and plenty of off-chamber. You can’t ride this one on autopilot. The flow is still fairly consistent, but there are more places where you have to really focus. Several bridge crossings and short step, winding climbs require your undivided attention. A couple fairly long climbs (as compared to other local trails). Ground is soft (for now). Traction is great. EVMA seemed to take the best of many of the other local trails and build them into this one. Nice job.

Summary:
Excellent single track trail with lots of climbing. Great vista for the tidewater area. Longer climbs that York River State Park and some good downhills. A very good aerobic work out and some nice technical challanges.

Summary:
This is my new favorite! The hills are steep and twisty, wich makes them more technical than most trails in this area. This trail is a good workout in either direction. The switchbacks are lots of fun. The trail makes very good use of the terrain, while still being sustainable. Good job EVMA.

Recommended Route:
First do the outer loop by making all right turns, this would be counterclockwise. Then go clockwise by making left turns. Then use the middle trails to do a figure 8.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
York river, New Quarter, Freedom, Uppercounty

Summary:
This is a great new trail system, the new sections of trails are still soft, but with more tread on the trail it will become a killer trail. The climbs will push you hard, but then you are rewarded with nice fast twisty downhills, one section of downhill has 2 small jumps, but at the speed you hit them, you will get some nice air. This trail system is not like other trails in this area, there is more elevation change, you are going either going up or down, not many flats spots here. This trail system has a lot of potential to grow and to become one of the best places to ride in Eastern Va as new sections get added over time. Another Great trail by the EVMA

Recommended Route:
The trail has one main outer loop with and a few cross trails that link both sides of the park and another spur that loops back on itself. The trail is bi-directional so you can spend hours just making up your own loops. Once you have ridden the trail a time or 2 you will be able to get around pretty easy.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
York River, Freedom Park, Upper County Park, New Quarter Park, Gatewood, Harwoods Mill ride them all..
