Upper County Park
10 reviews
 3.6 of 5

A great 3.5-4 mile trail located at Upper County Park west of Williamsburg. The trail head isn''t more than 3 minutes off of Rt 64. Once again the trail building crew at EVMA did a fantastic job utilizing the terrain. A left at the trail head leads you on a twisty trail down towards Edwards Swamp which you''ll see on your left. The first 1-1.5 miles twists and turns its way on loamy rich soil. You''ll climb up and cross an old fire road after which the trail loosens up a bit and flows at a higher speed. There aren''t many level spots on the trail. Just after you see the Park Field through the trees on your left you''ll come to a fork in the trail. A sharp left allows you to take advantage of a quick little downhill and a few nice whooops that can launch you skyward. You''ll ccome out onto an old fire road that leads back up toward the picnic shelter. Take a right around the red car and then another right leads you back down another fire road to where you came off the single track. A short hump back up the jumps and you''re on the single track again. Go straight through the fork and you''ll pass back across another fire road and you''ll be back at the trail head in no time. If you''re coming from Richmond to ride York River or the other Williamsburg trails it''d be crazy not to stop here for a nice warmup. The Park also provides a fantastic spot for summer barbecues and even has a nice big swimming pool that would sure feel good after a hot summer ride! Once again thanks to Kirk Moore and the EVMA crew for (another) job well done!

Summary:
Upper County is a great place to ride if you are short on time. It flows well in either direction but will give you a real workout. It also is a good add-on ride to York River Freedom or Wahrani. In the summer you can take a dip in the pool after your ride.

Recommended Route:
Clockwise at the trail head and ride in a figure 8. Turn around and do it in the opposite direction.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
York River
Freedom Park
Wahrani

Summary:
I think it is a great trail, especially with a single speed. Run it figure eight a couple times and you will get a great workout. It is short but just ride a couple times. Then it Wahrani or York River on the way home.

Recommended Route:
Figure Eight.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
York River State Park, Wahrani, New Quarter Park, and Freedom Park.

Summary:
Don't let the length of this trail fool you. It can be ridden in either direction and whichever direction you ride, both loops will work you out. The left loop has tighter turns and more climbing than the right. This is a great trail system to hit on the way home from Wahrani or York River, or in the evening after work. If one lap isn't enough of a workout, turn around and ride it in the opposite direction.

Recommended Route:
On the first lap ride clock-wise, then do the second lap counter-clockwise. If you have any energy left, ride it in a figure 8.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
York River State Park, Freedom Park, New Quarter Park, & Wahrani

Not worth the drive. A boring and short trail with very little flow.
