Fox Mill District Park
2 reviews
 4 of 5

Fox Mill District Park has a network of trails that has something for everyone. With several technical ascents/descents and a few switchbacks even the heartiest of mountain bikers will find some challenges at this small park. Despite the small footprint of this park, by the time you have traversed all of the loops and connecting trails you will have ridden approximately four miles. The park is located in Reston, VA between Fox Mill Road and Lawyers Road.

Summary:
Local trail that doesn't see too much use. This is a park in a residential area that is adjacent to a school. The trail is in pretty good shape for the limited MTB use.

Obstacles have not been removed. There are trees to hop and creeks to jump. There are some steeps that locals have cut, but they are mostly chutes. There are some sketchy pit jumps that need some work. The rocky drops have not been hit enough and lines need to be made. Good approach and backsides, but nobody has put the time in.

This is great if you live close or you link it up with other local trails.

Recommended Route:
I like to link this up from the Glade and Twin Branch. Come into it from Lawyers road and the north side of the park. There are a few ways to ride it, but mostly it is an inner loop and an outer loop. I like to ride the ouside and then loop up the inside. The inner trails are a little more burly that the perimiter loop. I really like this place 'cuz it is in the back yard and I can get a solid hour of single track with no problem. That said, anyone can ride it. You have to work at it to make it difficult. This is a great place to get in shape or take a novice.

The Glade, Twin Branch, Difficult Run...there are other...look at Reston, Herndon and Great Falls

Summary:
I just rode this trail today with some friends. I wasn't expecting much, but it was pretty nice. It turned out to be alot more intense than anticipated.

It is sort of a 'Fountainhead lite' because it is really rocky and rooty. It has some steep hills like Fountainhead, but alot of not so steep, and long, hills with some nice sweeping turns. You can really get up some speed and keep it for more than a few seconds. Some of the hills are only ridable going down unless you are really skilled though, but those hills are the most fun to go down :)

It has lots of different routes and intersections, so you can take a different route each time just about. It also has a rather large number of logs. Alot of them my friends and I couldn't ride over, but we aren't very experienced yet.

People do walk on it though, and they also walk their dogs. The dogs we met were no trouble though.

Overall I found this to be a very fun trail. Before we knew it we had spent 5 or so hours there.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Wakefield, Fountainhead
