W&O railroad offskirts

The trail is very long, and leads into difficult run and lake fairfax. This section, however, is much more challenging than difficult run, and can be very technical at some points. It is a beautiful singletrack that is very seldom used, and in great condition. Make sure your bike has good brakes before going.

Trail Directions
Everyone in the area knows of the W&O railroad. if not, look it up on a map and it should be on there. To get there, drive down sunset blvd toward the reston town center. you will find a small street (Michael Faraday Drive). it doubles as the parking lot to RESTON ICE ARENA. As you pull in, you will see a small single track opening straight ahead.

Summary:
This is a great trail for people of all ages. Trail description:
Total length: 45 miles
Trail Width: 6 feet
Trail structure: all paved, but there are shortcuts and certain spots for dirt.
There is even a BMX coarse. Check it out. Ride this trail if:
1) You want to stay in shape; loose the fat
2) Rollerblade
3) Bike Ride (75% of riders are skinny road bikers)
4) Jog, Run
5) You want to ride in the safest trail around. This trail is the safest to exercise on...away from traffic. I usually do 15 to 20 miles Total, 3 times a week. Remember, wear a helmet NO MATTER WHAT you are doing, because there are MAJOR intersections you have to cross on certain highways. Ride Safe and have fun!

Summary:
I'm not sure what the initial reviewer was thinking when he/she said it is seldom used. This is one of the MOST heavily used sections of singletrack in Northern Virginia. It's a bit of a stretch to call it singletrack as it's mostly about 5-6 feet wide, but there are a couple technical sections that make it fun. It's great for night riding!

Summary:
This is a great trail. In the fall, however, it needs some trail work. It is covered in leaves, and it can be hard to direct where rocks and roots are hidden. Id recommend going in a little while when it isnt as hidden. Great trail though. 5 tires for when its at its best....
