Small, enclosed park near Chippenham Hospital, sometimes the gate is locked, if so, park at the post office across the street. Very rooty singletrack, fast, whoop-di-do's, some flat twisty sections, Lots of short fast and steep hills. Middle of the park is the highest point with several fast switchback downhills.
Summary: This can be a bit confusing to a 1st time visitor. The lay out is a outter loop with 4 to 5 parallel sections that cross the center of the main outter loop, with more smaller interconnecting trails..sounds confusing...i know. Yet with enough time & patience you can make some amazing links...make all decents..or all climbs...or both....or ride in opposite directions. Me & my roomate were able to get 11 fresh miles out of this small..yet busy park! The highlight of the park is when you come upon the long half pipe whoops..you'll end up doing it over & over. Theres alot of features & the only way to find them is to get lost & learn it. Currently as of feb 2009 some new trail work is being done rerouting off private property. Go get yours!

Summary: The more familiar I become with this trail the better I enjoy it. I promise to make the half pipe whole again, just some quick work with a chainsaw. I don't understand the lack of riders at this spot. But this is a good intermediate trail that is well laid out with plenty of options to keep things fresh. Easy to get back uphill after a quick downhill run.
Recommended Route: Several options will appear after you ride several times. Start with a clockwise route around the extreme perimeter trail. Then explore the interior "spokes" including the half pipe.

Summary: I just got my first mountain bike and discovered this trail online (I've always borrowed or rented a bike--Colorado, Ozarks, etc.) I'm new to Richmond, and Powhite is 10 minutes from my house. A great trail for me. Some fast downhills with a few jumps. Lots of varied terrain if you ride all the trails. Half-pipe was muddy, so got stuck (probably owing to my beginner status). Not quite ready for the 8 ft log ramp near the top of the first hill. Several logs and created technical pieces. Excited to go back as my skill increases. A great in town ride.

Summary: Hurricane Isabel has left Powhite unrideable. Its a shame because mile for mile Powhite has best obstacles in the Richmond area. But If all the downed trees are made into log crossings it is going to be awesome!! I would be happy to volunteer some time in the afternoons for cleanup work. If any Mt. Biking club needs help contact me. Bumpskir@Access4Less.net

Summary: I consider these my home trails since they are about 8 minutes from my house, and if people are curious about trail maintainence, and who does it...I am one of them. I can take credit for some of the switchbacks in the middle of the park.
The halfpipe is the quintessential mountain bike experience, and if that does not make your visiting this park worth the trip, than you need to find a new sport!! Come ready to experience the best single track in the city of Richmond, some challenging climbs, some root-ridden decents, and the HALFPIPE!! After several dry days, it's blistering fast and will have you climbing back up to run it again and again.
Recommended Route: Sun up to sun down, parking lot is open across from Chippenham Hospital
